Amonsot.

Filipino-Australian Czar Amonsot will stake his 16-fight unbeaten streak when he faces undefeated Carlos Manuel Portillo of Paraguay Friday, October 6 at The Melbourne Pavilion, Flemington, Australia. Both fighters will clash for the interim WBA Oceania super lightweight title. Since migrating to Australia in 2010, Amonsot chalked up 13 wins, 2 draws and 1 no contest. The former ALA Boxing Gym fighter has a total of 34 wins, 22 by KO, 3 losses, 3 draws and 1 no contest.

While fighting Down Under, Amonsot won regional titles such as the WBO Asia Pacific lightweight title, Australian super lightweight title, and interim WBA Oceania super lightweight title. But his mettle will be tested by Portillo who has 18 wins with no losses with 14 wins by knockout at a high KO rate of 78%. Experience is a plus factor for the Bohol native though. He was even taken by Jeff Horn as sparring partner when they tangle with Manny Pacquiao in the Battle of Brisbane.

Amonsot has not lost a fight since 2009 and is looking for another world title shot. He lost to Michael Katsidis in 2007 for the interim WBO world lightweight title. Now 34 years old, he won all his last 6 fights by KO. While the 25-year-old Portillo will be fighting outside his hometown for the first time in his career. He won his last 7 fights by ruthless KOs but has never fought an oponent with same stature as Amonsot.

Bob Arum recently appeared on the Everlast podcast Talkbox and talked about Manny Pacquiao. “I don’t know if he’s gonna fight. He’s really into the political situation. He’s being groomed by people in the Philippines to be the next President,” Arum described the fighting senator. “So, when it’s a choice of doing the public good or taking the time to work in a gym to prepare himself for a fight, he’s going to adopt the former.”

Speaking to Behind The Gloves, Guillermo Rigondeaux was excited of the match with Vasyl Lomachenko. “This is not going to just be any kind of fight, I thank the fans for asking for the fight. It's two divisions but we're giving the fans what they want so I'm ready to fight," said the Cuban who is not concerned of the weight difference. "When there is quality you don't need size or weight, size or weight is not an issue. The worst poisons come in small containers!"

Naseem Hamed was invited to the 55th Annual WBC Convention at Baku, Azerbaijan. He was known for his leopard design trunks, front somersault over the top rope into the ring, his highly athletic and hard-hitting southpaw style, and deadly one-punch knockout power. A record of 37 fights, 31 KOs with 84% KO rate, with only one loss to Marco Antonio Barrera by decision. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2015.

When asked that there are a lot of great boxers but no one is flamboyant and spectacular like him Hamed commented: "I honestly feel we have that lacking in boxing. No one will put it on the line like I did. It'd be nice to see someone really entertaining, doing the job I did and filling those shoes. But unfortunately, we haven't seen that for a number of years." He said he was humbled being in the same room with many current and former world champions in the WBC convention.

Tyson Fury has claimed he will no longer apply for a licence with the British Boxing Board of Control. The former world heavyweight champion is still suspended pending investigation by a UK Anti-Doping so his licence was revoked by the BBBofC. Fury's boxing licence will not be renewed until his UKAD case will be decided. Fury has been inactive for nearly two years since defeating Wladimir Klitschko and wresting his world heavyweight title.

The match of WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn with WBO No. 11 Gary Corcoran in Brisbane will be on December according to Horn's trainer Glenn Rushton, as told to the Courier Mail. “The terms have been agreed upon and it will be in Brisbane. We’re still sorting out a location and a date, and then it’s just a matter of the signatures,” Rushton said. “I’ve been told by the promoters that it’s a done deal. We’re hoping to announce it in the next few days."

The most prolific boxer in history was Great Britain’s Len Wickwar who, between 1928 and 1947, holds the records for the most professional fights at 470, most wins 340, with 93 KO wins, and 82 losses, 42 draws and 1 no contest. He started his career fighting in small clubs, sometimes fighting up to three times in one night. His boxing career temporarily stopped during World War II. He returned to the ring after the war but only fought four more times before retiring in 1947.

One of his biggest fights was in the late 1930s, where Wickwar lost to British lightweight champion Eric Boon. He was managed by George Biddles who also managed the featherweight boxer Tish Marsden. After retiring from boxing, Wickwar lived in the New Parks area of Leicester and worked in a local engineering company. Coincidentally, both Marsden and Wickwar died exactly on the same day in 1980.
