TEOFIMO LOPEZ VS. SHAKUR STEVENSON ON JANUARY 31
By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Wed, 10 Dec 2025

Teofimo Lopez vs. Shakur Stevenson will headline a card on January 31 at the Madison Square Garden, often called the Mecca of Boxing. It is an ideal location because Lopez is from Brooklyn, New York while Stevenson was born nearby in Newark, New Jersey.
Lopez is the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and The Ring junior welterweight champion since 2023. He previously held the unified lightweight championship and The Ring title, between 2019 and 2021.
Stevenson has held multiple world championships, the WBO featherweight title, the WBC and The Ring super featherweight titles, the WBO super featherweight title, and has held the World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight title since 2023.
As an amateur, Stevenson represented the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics, winning the bantamweight silver medal. Also an amateur, Lopez represented Honduras at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Lopez fought the unified WBA (Super), WBO, and The Ring champion, Vasiliy Lomachenko, on October 17, 2020 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It was the first major fight since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and it has no live audience.
Lopez stunned the boxing world with an upset victory over the highly-favored Ukrainian by unanimous decision to unify the lightweight division and remained unbeaten. The judges' scorecards were 116–112, 117–111 and 119–109.
The Lopez-Stevenson fight was announced to take place on January 31 in New York, as part of "The Ring VI", exclusively on DAZN. The fight would headline Lopez defending his WBO junior welterweight title. Stevenson was targeting to become a four-division champion.
Shakur is undefeated at 24-0-0 with 11 KOs while Teofimo is 22-1-0 with 13 KOs.
Lopez's only loss was dealt with by George Kambosos Jr. by split decision in November 2021 at Madison Square Garden, New York losing his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles.
