Rex Tso Training in the Philippines, Gearing Up for the Toughest Test of His Pro Career

PhilBoxing.com

Next month, we?ve got The Road to Glory, the biggest boxing event in Asia since Mike Tyson vs. Buster Douglas in Tokyo in 1990. At The Road to Glory, DEF?s very own Rex Tso will face his toughest test yet against Timur Shailezov (16-5-1, 3 KO) of Kyrgyzstan.

Timur, the former WBA Inter-Continental super flyweight champ and former Russian bantamweight champ, has nearly 3 times as many pro fights as Rex, and has been in some serious battles in the ring, including six title fights.

This challenge was Ricky Hatton?s idea. The British boxing legend watched Rex fight at TNF II in April, and while he thought Rex fought well, he also believed that the matchmaker made things too easy for him. Now that Ricky is on board, he wants to make sure Rex is the real deal before he moves onto bigger things, like joining the Hatton Promotions stable in the UK.

To gear up for the biggest fight of his career, Rex has gone to the Philippines to train with Aljoe Jaro, the owner and president of Jaro Promotions and co-promoter/partner of Canelo Promotions.

Aljoe, who believes that ?heart? is the most important thing about a boxer, watched one of Rex?s fights in the Philippines. Seeing a fighter with good technique, good fitness, and a lot of heart, Aljoe told Jay Lau, Rex?s trainer and promoter, ?I can make him a world champion!?

So for 2 months, Aljoe will help Rex develop even more knockout power to make the Hong Kong boxer a top boxer in Asia.

Since his pro debut at Thursday Night Fights in September last year, Rex has gone on a hot win streak, building an undefeated record of 7-0-0, 4 KO in fights in China, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and most recently, Singapore. In his last fight in May, Rex took on the tough Yodpichai Sithsaithong at the Dragon Fire event at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore in front of an audience of 4,000 boxing fans!
