THOMPSON-JUAREZ, ORTIZ-APARICIO DOUBLEHEADER OCT 27 ON FOX DEPORTES

PhilBoxing.com

SERGIO THOMPSON VS. LUIS ARMANDO JUAREZ & ROBERTO ORTIZ VS. JHEAN CARLO APARICIO SET FOR OCTOBER 27 DOUBLEHEADER FROM CHETUMAL, MEXICO WHICH WILL BE TELEVISED ON FOX DEPORTES IN THE UNITED STATES & ON TELEVISA IN MEXICO

LOS ANGELES, October 24 - Rapidly turning into one of the most feared knockout artists to emerge from Mexico in years, Cancun's Sergio Thompson aims to extend his string of early finishes to nine on Saturday, October 27, when he defends his WBC International Silver Super Featherweight title against Luis Armando Juarez in a 12 round main event from the Centro Internacional de Convenciones in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico which will be televised on FOX Deportes in the United States and on Televisa in Mexico.

In the co-main event, also scheduled for 12 rounds, unbeaten Roberto Ortiz of Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico City makes the first defense of his WBC Silver Super Lightweight title against Zacatecas' Jhean Carlo Aparicio.

Thompson vs. Juarez is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Pepe Gomez Promotor Deportivo and sponsored by Corona, Periodico QueQui and Quintana Roo Tourism. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. CT and the first fight begins at 6:30 p.m. CT. The FOX Deportes broadcast will air on Sunday, October 28 at 5:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT* (check local listings for exact broadcast time due to MLB World Series schedule) and the Televisa broadcast will air on Saturday, October 27 on Canal 5 at 10:30 p.m. CT.

Currently ranked number one in the world at super featherweight by the WBC, 28-year-old Sergio "Yeyo" Thompson (24-2, 22 KO's) is closing in on his well-deserved shot at WBC Super Featherweight World Champion Takahiro Aoh, but to get it, he must first dispatch of Juarez on October 27. One of the sport's busiest contenders, Thompson has stopped former World Champion Jorge Linares, Juan Ramon Solis and Carlos Claudio in the past seven months, pushing his knockout streak to eight.

A native of the boxing rich nation of Argentina, 30-year-old San Miguel product Luis Armando Juarez (16-5-2, 4 KO's) can begin a serious quest for a world title should he upset Thompson on October 27. The winner of four of his last five bouts, Juarez has the style, determination and motivation to push Thompson to the late rounds and then make a run for the biggest win of his professional career.

The number five ranked super lightweight in the world, Torreon's Roberto "Massa" Ortiz (26-0-1, 22 KO's) is yet another talented Mexican fighter making his mark with a mix of power, speed and ring savvy. After serving his apprenticeship on the local scene, Ortiz stepped it up in 2011, putting together eight wins against quality opponents while defending his WBC Silver belt five times. Now looking to make his sixth successful defense, Ortiz is ready to make a statement against Aparicio on October 27.

26-year old Jhean Carlo Aparicio (23-4, 17 KO's) has been awaiting an opportunity like this since he turned professional in 2008. On October 27, he'll get his chance to shine on television in the United States and Mexico against a top-rated contender in Ortiz. The winner of seven of his last nine bouts, including three in a row, Aparicio is going to enter the ring with fists flying in order to show Ortiz that he means business.
