VALCARCEL REELECTED AS WBO PRESIDENT

HOLLYWOOD, FL ? Francisco 'Paco' Valcarcel has been reelected as president of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) during Tuesday morning's election of officers of the 25th WBO Convention held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Valcarcel, who first got involved in boxing as a lawyer of Puerto Rican boxing great Wilfredo Gomez in the early 1980s, sits as WBO president for 16th consecutive years. He first got elected as president in 1996.
Also elected to take the helm of the organization is John Duggan as 1st Vice-President. Duggan, who chairs the Grievance Committee, replaces fellow lawyer Alfonso Munera. Jacinth Bryan Labega retains her post as the 2nd Vice-President. Rudy Paz, likewise retains his post as the organization's 3rd Vice-President. Rolando Marcos Hermoso has been elected as the 4th Vice-President, replacing Andrew Smale. Filipino-American Leon Panoncillo Jr also retains his post as Vice-President for Asia-Pacific region.
Other officers elected are Adolfo Torres, Treasurer; Luis Perez, International Commissioner; Igor Mazurov, Rafael Lopez Santos, John Handenlaar and Markus Aslani as members of ther International Commission.
The election of officers was the first order of business of the convention that started Monday and runs until Friday, Oct. 26.
