DEVON ALEXANDER DETHRONES RANDALL BAILEY
By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sun, 21 Oct 2012

Brooklyn, NY ? Devon Alexander 23-1 (13 KOs) of St. Louis MO ousts defending champion Randall Bailey 43-7 (37 KOs) of Miami, FL via Unanimous Decision win to capture Bailey?s IBF Welterweight belt at the Barclays Center in downtown Brooklyn.
Alexander connected more against Bailey who cannot seem to land his vaunted right against his challenger. Alexander exercised caution and effective ring mobility ring to frustrate the former champ in their 12 round championship bout.
Alexander, the former unified champion of the 140 division used effective jabbing on top of his movement to thwart the advances of Bailey. His tactic although effective against Bailey failed to impress the crowd at the arena. Boos and chants of ?This fight sucks? filled the arena after every uninteresting round of the initial offering of TV network Showtime Sports which is carrying tonight?s event live all over the United States.
Bailey who won the belt last May with a 11th round knockout of undefeated Mike Jones in Las Vegas failed to trap his opponent in a corner or the ropes and unload his strong punches on his challenger. He would land occasional rights on Alexander but is unable to follow it up as Alexander effectively escaped and moved away from him in those moments.
The scores at ringside were 115-111, 116-110 and 117-109 all in favor of the new IBF welterweight champion from St. Louis Missouri.
