Sumi-Sikat Na Anak ? The Rising Son Marc ?Gwapo? Pagcaliwangan By Rob Cruz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 18 Sep 2012 ![]() Toronto, Canada - It was only a matter of time before the secret came out. One of Canada?s most recognizable names from the amateurs who will certainly be a hot prospect for years to come happens to be a Filipino Canadian. He is a well-liked individual and a full blooded proud Filipino. A decorated 3 time Golden Gloves Champion and a Provincial Champion who recently turned pro a few months ago. The long wait is over, the celebrated amateur boxer and the highly anticipated professional debut for Marc ?Gwapo? Pacgaliwangan from London, Ontario is just a few days away. As a young boy, the only thing that Marc wanted to be was to become a boxer, whatever he did and whatever sport he played, boxing was always on his mind. After seven years of boxing experience and a long winning streak fighting at 130lbs in the amateurs, the timing was perfect for Marc to hang up his amateur ranks a few months before he turned 22 years old. Some say that there could be as close to 1 million Filipinos in Canada; the day has come where our presence in this country produces our own boxer from the amateur grassroots level that will represent his fellow Filipinos and Canadians alike. That certain individual has to be young, full of promise, marketable, well-mannered and has the pugilistic skills that will see glory one day. Marc Pagcaliwangan has the opportunity to champion his people as this young man is surrounded by talent and is blessed with the perseverance and dedication that champions are made of. Marc Pacaliwangan is a training machine, he lives, eats and breathes boxing from sun up to sun down; he was born for this. Marc?s professional debut will be on the at Chapiteau CCSE Maisonneuve in Montreal, Quebec on Sept. 22 against Gerald Audate. ?Gwapo? sees action five weeks later at the Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn, New York on Oct. 27. His first professional fights have been arranged by his manager Mark Erwin of Win Sports Management and Adam Harris, Director of Hennessy Sports Canada, two very familiar names in Canadian Boxing. Marc Pagcaliwangan endured a 12 week training camp which started in the beginning of July. However, he was fight ready as early as June. His Manager Mark Erwin, from WIN Sports Management wanted to bring his new prospect to world class condition and insure that the world sees the very best of ?Gwapo?. Some of Pagcaliwangan's sparring partners are the 2 time IBF Super Bantamweight World Champion Steve Molitor and the NABA Super Featherweight Champion Logan McGuinness, both world class boxers who has been instrumental with the development of the young Pagcaliwangan. Mark Erwin statement about Marc Pagcaliwangan: Marc has dedicated himself to the sport, he spends every waking moment thinking about fulfilling his dream as a professional prize fighter. What struck me about Marc was his demeanor...He is kind, caring and has the greatest amount of respect for his trainers, coaches and most of all the sport. He is an astute student who yearns to learn more each day he laces up...For me (as his Manager) I can't help but want it just as much as he does...I want it for him. When Marc decided to join forces with WIN Sports Management, he did so after careful deliberation, albeit with great determination that this decision was the right one. Our goal is to bring "Gwapo" as far as we can...If that brings us to the World Stage competing for a Title belt, then...we have more than fulfilled Marc's dreams. For now...It's one day at a time...One training day at a time, most importantly however, when September 22nd rolls around...Marc will have fulfilled his lifelong Dream....With this devoted determination, I can't help but think...It just might be his first opponents nightmare! Adam Harris, Director of Hennessy Sports Canada describes Marc Pagcaliwangan as: Marc has all the tools to succeed in the sport of boxing. His hard work ethic and commitment to his craft could lead to big fights for him down the road. In this day and age in the sport of Boxing it's not enough just to be talented, you need to have that "X-factor" Mark has both qualities in spades. He is a boxer that could become a cross over star in this province. I have rarely seen this kind of anticipation for a pro debut. We are thrilled to be working together with WIN Sports Managment and expect big things from Mark in the years to come. The future is bright and the road has been paved for Marc Pagcaliwangan. All he has is keep learning and let his hands do the talking when the bell rings. A highly anticipated professional debut like Pagcaliwangan?s is usually reserved for Olympic Athletes ready to make a big splash in the world stage. Marc Pagcaliwangan is also the first international fighter in several decades that has been sponsored by famous premium boxing equipment manufacturer Lonsdale of London. Boxing Legends such as Muhammad Ali, Henry Cooper and Sugar Ray Robinson wore this Lonsdale. This is a significant sponsorship from legendary Lonsdale of London for a young Filipino Pugilist from humble beginnings, waiting for his chance to prove that he is hungry to lace them up and make a name for himself, one fight at a time. ![]() Pagcalinawan takes pointers from Coach Celestial. ![]() Pagcalinawa vs Audate poster.
