NBA -- Derrick Rose enters business arena
By Scott Marsiglio PhilBoxing.com Fri, 07 Sep 2012

CHICAGO -- At the relatively tender age of 23, Derrick Rose has done quite well for himself. He is a former league MVP, a multiple NBA All-Star, and inarguably one of the most celebrated athletes in the sports world.
Thursday morning here in Chicago, the likeable Chicago Bulls point guard added another highlight in his already glittering resume' --- businessman.
As reported by the Chicago Tribune, Rose has taken an equity stake with the popular Chicago pizza icon Giordano's.
Besides plunking some serious dough for the fastfood venture, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound superstar will reportedly serve as the company's spokesman and will soon appear in ads and promotions on behalf of the chain.
"I've grown up with my family eating Giordano's pizza," Rose said in a press release. I've always loved Giordano's, so this was a uniquely perosnal opportunity for me."
"I' m working right now on my signature pizza that we plan to introduce soon. I'm actually pretty good in the kitchen," the release added.
Even before donning the entrepreneur's hat, Rose was already one of the richest athletes of his generation. Last December 2011, he inked a 5-year contract extension with the Bulls worth $94.8 million. Two months later, shoe giant Adidas inked Derrick to an earth-shaking $200 million endorsement deal that runs through 13 years.
Rose, who averaged 23 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists per game for the Chicago Bulls last season, is recuperating from a surgically-repaired torn ACL. He sustained the injury on April 28, when the Bulls hosted Game 1 of their Round 1 playoffs series against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Depending on how well ACL heals and how well he responds to rehabilitation, there is no definite timetable for Rose's return. (Scott Marsiglio)
