REDEMPTION TIME FOR BRIAN VILORIA
By Rey Anthony PhilBoxing.com Fri, 11 May 2012

This Saturday evening (North America time) will be an exciting fight that not only Filipino fight fans are waiting for. It is a fight that World Flyweight champion Brian ?Hawaiian Punch? Viloria (30-3-0 17KO) have been waiting for more than half a decade. He will be defending his WBO light flyweight title against a familiar opponent from Mexico Omar Nino ?Giant Killer? Romero (31-4-2 13KO). This is the third time they will meet inside the ring. The fight will be held at the Ynares Sports arena in Pasig City, Philippines.
These two fighters go way back in August of 2006 when back then in their first meeting, young undefeated KO artist Viloria (12KO?s in 20 undefeated fights 0.600 KO average) who entered the ring as the heavy favorite to win the match was suddenly out boxed and out worked by Romero in 12 rounds losing in a 12 round unanimous decision and the WBC light flyweight title in the process.
A rematch was then held about three months later at the Thomas and Mack Center as an undercard for the third fight between Manny Pacquiao and Erik Morales. Romero was able to retain his title via a majority draw despite of being ruled knocked down during the fifth round when his glove touched the canvass and was dropped once again during the 9th. The fight was later ruled a No Decision after Romero failed the post-fight drug test.
Romero was inactive for the next eighteen months after that fight while Viloria struggled to get his career back losing a majority decision against Edgar Sosa five months later. Dropping down the rankings, Viloria did not get another shot at a title fight until two and a half years later.
Dubbed as Island Assault 4, this is a crucial fight that Villoria must win to redeem himself from the man who put the first loss in his record. The fight will be televised beginning at 9:00PM EST and will be available in the United States via Ustream.tv for $29.95.
