UFC FIGHT NIGHT? SINGAPORE: HOLM vs. CORREIA PRE-BOUT THOUGHTS

PhilBoxing.com

Singapore ? In under 48 hours, UFC?, the world?s premier MMA organization, will make its highly anticipated return to Asia with UFC FIGHT NIGHT? SINGAPORE: HOLM vs. CORREIA, taking place Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

All 24 main card and under card athletes drafted for the high-octane live event have arrived in Singapore - fresh from their fight camps.

Fans and the public are welcome to catch their favourite athletes live tomorrow (June 16) at the ceremonial weigh-in starting 6PM at the MasterCard Theatres, Marina Bay Sands. The event is open to the public, with no entry fee.

Gearing up for a heart-thumping showcase of quality MMA action on Saturday?s Fight Night, here are what six athletes have to say about preparations and their time here in Singapore:

Holly ?The Preacher's Daughter? Holm
(10-3-0, fighting out of Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States)

On bout preparations

"I feel like I have everything to lose, I feel like I have everything to gain all at the same time, so I don't want to get so much pressure on myself that I don't perform. I know that I'm very capable and prepared and I've trained very hard and I just need to be focused on that?I'm a fighter and I have to remember that - I'm here because I love to be here, not because of what other people think, not because of money, not because of fame. I want to win. All I need to do is focus on that."

On headline bout against Bethe Correia

"Bethe has no idea what's going on in my brain, so I hope she thinks she knows what's going on in my head. For me, the only cure for my losses is a victory. So I'm going to keep plugging in, keep fighting and keep training and I'm going to go in there doing what I love to do."

What motivates her

"I'll use anything for motivation. If they're too nice then I think they're trying to butter me up. If they're rude, or trying to get under my skin, then it gets me fired up either way."

On Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather fight

"I'm one of those that really believes in being able to crossover, I've done it, so boxing is a whole different world, it's just everything about it is very different but Conor's one of those who really believes in himself and he's going to put up a good fight"

Bethe ?Pitbull? Correia
(10-2-1, fighting out of Campina Grande, Paraiba Brazil)

On headline bout against Holly Holm

?My camp was really good. In my gameplan against Holly, I train everything - I didn?t want to train only the grappling part of the game, but counter her boxing. I trained every aspect of the game. I want to show a new Bethe and a new aspect of the game? I think I will be able to nullify her reach. I think I am a good counter striker for her kind of reach. I don?t think she?s adapted to the grappling part of the game ? I think she has a lot to learn in terms of grappling.?

Sky-high confidence

?I know I?ll get a title shot again because I?m a fighter that never stops. I am a fighter that has overachieved the most with the UFC, that?s what I want to show the world. I want to keep overachieving and I want to keep going after this love, and I want a title shot. I want the world to know that I am the best who gets everything I want.?

Advice for Asian female fighters

?When I started to fight, there were no women in the UFC. Everybody criticised me a lot, said a lot of bad things about me. They still do it today, but I just don?t hear it, you know? I just keep walking and going, and keep doing what I want. And here I am today. So to every woman who wants to be a fighter, go after your dreams, follow your dreams because I am here today because I followed my dreams. I think it would be very good to see more Asian female fighters in MMA as we have so many UFC weight divisions waiting to be opened. I want to see more fighters from more nations, and women?s MMA get bigger and bigger.?

Colby ?Chaos? Covington
(11-1-0, fighting out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States)

On bout preparations

?Preparation's been great. This is the best fight camp I've had - I'm fully healthy. I've came in to a lot of my UFC fights injured so I'm a 110% right now and I feel like I'm firing on all cylinders and I'm going to put on a good show on Saturday night.?

What fans can expect at this Saturday

?Fans can expect a very exciting high-paced fight. Victory's eminent for me. I'm going to put up a good show, I am going to finish DHK at the Indoor Stadium on Saturday.?

Shout-out to fans in Singapore

?You can love me or hate me but after Saturday, you're going to appreciate my fighting skills. Much respect to you guys, I have nothing but love for fans in Singapore and all of Asia. Enjoy the show.?

Tarec ?Sponge? Saffiedine
(16-6-0, fighting out of Brussels, Belgium)

On returning to Singapore after winning UFC Fight Night Singapore: Saffiedine vs. Lim in 2014

?My first time here in Singapore was unbelievable. The fans are really into the fighting, and each time I fight in Asia, I feel the same. It?s was an amazing experience, especially on top of getting the win.?

On bouts preparations

?Everything went really good. No injury. Training hard, training smart, and am in great shape.?

Rolando ?The Incredible? Dy
(8-4-1, fighting out of Devao City, Philippines)

On bout preparations

?My preparation is great, given it was a late notification. While they've only given me two weeks to prepare, I feel strong, I feel great and I'm 100% in condition.?

On making his UFC debut this Saturday

?I am going for the kill and I'm not a boring fighter for those who know me. I am fighting a veteran who has an exciting and unique fighting style - the fight will be a candidate for fight of the night.?

On UFC in Asia

?There are a lot of fighters in Asia and it will be a good opportunity for fighters in Southeast Asia to show their talent in the biggest stage of MMA. I am very happy that the UFC is coming back to SEA, so that they can discover more talent.?

On being a UFC fighter

?It is my dream since day 1. Before I started and decided to train in martial arts, I've been a fan of UFC. After six years of dreaming, I am now in the UFC. This is the biggest goal of my life. This is one of the biggest accomplishments that I have in my record, and this fight is very important to me and I will give everything".

Justin Scoggins
(11-3-0, fighting out of Spartanburg, South Carolina, United States)

On bout preparations

?Preparation?s been great for this fight. I did my whole camp in South Carolina?s Revolution Martial Arts, and have a great team of coaches around me ? even when training partners are worn out from me beating them up, the coaches would actually get in there with me, push me really hard and make sure I?m ready - blowing my lungs out, making sure my weight?s good and really pushing me as I?ve had problems in the past with my weight cuts. It?s been very scientific this whole time.?

What fans can expect this Saturday

?I?m going in there and not looking to hold anything back. I am looking to make a splash in the flyweight division. Sasaki is a great fighter ? he?s put on some awesome performances in the UFC. Wilson Reis has got his title shot after beating him. So, I?m right up there. The No. 3 ranked guy in the world, Ray Borg - I schooled that guy. I win over Sasaki and it puts me up there for the title spot and I can jump ahead a lot of guys.?

On fans in Singapore

?The fans over here really love martial arts. It?s one of the first time people have noticed me a lot. They are really cool and educated on the sport. I?m pretty sure they love karate fighters. I?ve got a lot of love and hospitality around here. Definitely one of the favourite places I?ve been with the UFC.?
