SALUDAR BROS TO SHOWCASE THEIR TALENTS IN CEBU THIS SATURDAY

PhilBoxing.com

Saludar boxing brothers Vic and Froilan will face a rare situation in their boxing careers on June 10.

Their promoter Championship Boxing Development Philippines (CBDP) is bankrolling a promotion in Cebu. So, what's the catch? None of CBDP?s fighters are from Cebu. To make it more interesting, the Polomolok, North Cotabato natives will travel to the Visayas to face fighters who are both from this part of the country. Vic Saludar (14W-2L, 9 KOs) will face Toto Landero (8W-1L-2D, 2 KOs) from Pontevedra, Negros Occidental while Froilan Saludar (24W-2L-1D, 15KOs) will trade leathers with Salatiel Amit (10W-2L-2D, 7 KOs) who was born in Biliran Island and is presently residing in Cebu training at the famed Omega Gym.

The Saludars will not only face formidable opponents but will also contend with the Cebuano crowd cheering for their opponents.

Vic will be risking his lofty world ranking in this fight against the ambitious Landero. The former Asian Games bronze medalist is now ranked at No. 2 in the world with the World Boxing Organization (WBO). The No. 1 ranked Ryuya Yamanaka is now scheduled to fight the champion Tatsuya Fukuhara some time in August and a win by Saludar against Landero will solidify his ranking and most probably land him the No. 1 spot after the Fukuhara-Yamanaka fight. The ideal scenario for Saludar is to fight a WBO world title eliminator this year then if he wins that fight, he will challenge for the world title as the mandatory challenger during the first half of 2018. But first thing first ? he must beat Landero on June 10. Saludar is also ranked No. 10 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF), No. 12 by the World Boxing Association (WBA) and No. 14 by the World Boxing Council (WBC) in their 105 lb. ranks. A win over Landero would surely push him to a higher ranking with these 3 other major boxing bodies.

In short, this is a must-win fight for Vic Saludar.

On the other hand, Froilan Saludar will figure in a very difficult assignment against Salatiel Amit of the Omega Gym Cebu. Of his previous 27 fights, Saludar faced a total of 18 Filipino opponents. Amit will be Saludar?s 19th Filipino opponent and by looking at the records and credentials of the 18, Amit is easily the most difficult Filipino opponent that Saludar will face in his entire professional boxing career. Amit has faced former 2-time world title challenger Jonathan Taconing (24W-3L-1D, 20 KOs) for the WBC International light flyweight title and although he lost that fight via 10th round TKO, he gained more than he lost in that fight. For sure, his management and coaching team at the Omega Gym will motivate him by saying that if he lasted 10 rounds against the world class Taconing, he would do better in 10 rounds against Saludar. Add to that is the fact that Amit will be fighting in his home city of Cebu.

In a nutshell, the Saludar-Amit fight is a 50-50 toss up of a fight.

Both Vic and Froilan might be the favorites to win their fights at Mandaue City, Cebu on June 10 but Landero and Amit will not be easy opponents. The Saludar brothers must be 100% physically and mentally to hurdle these formidable foes.

We will find out what the Saludars are made of come June 10.

The June 10 card billed as "ENGKWENTRO DINHI SA MANDAUE " VISAYAS VS. MINDANAO is promoted by Kenneth Rontal of the Championship Boxing Development of the Philippines. It will also feature Vince Paras (10W-0L-0D, 9 KOs) against Jimboy Haya (10W-3L-2D, 6 KOs) for the WBO Asia Pacific Youth light flyweight championship and as a special attraction on the card, a female bout featuring undefeated Casey Morton from Hawaii, USA against Phannaluk Kongsang of Thailand.
