Cabalquinto now wants to challenge WBO champ By Lito delos Reyes PhilBoxing.com Thu, 17 Sep 2015 UNDEFEATED Adones ?Ironman? Cabalquinto of the Philippines now wants to challenge reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) world junior welterweight champion Terence Crawford of United States for a title-fight. ?Yes, he?s now ready for a world title-fight,? said Raides ?Nonoy? Neri, chief trainer at the MP Boxing Gym in Davao City. Cabalquinto, a native of Talaingod, Davao del Norte is ranked no. 12 contender and is also the undisputed IBF Asia Pacific and Philippine junior welterweight champion. The 5-foot-8 hard puncher has a clean record of 21 straight wins, 14 by knockouts with no loss or draw. ?I think Adones is now ripe for a title-crack,? said Neri. The 27-year old Cabalquinto has won his last six fights all by knockouts. He previously stopped RJ Anoos by a fourth round technical knockout in their non-title bout held August 14 at the SM City Davao Annex. Cabalquinto retained his Philippine title via a 1st round knockout over Jonel Gadapan last May 30 at the Lagao gym in Gensan. Cabalquinto?s other KO victims were Denkamon Pakdee Gym of Indonesia, Pankorn Singwangcha of Thailand, Filipinos Elmer Legaria and Jovany Rota. He TKO?d Denkamon in 27 seconds of the 3rd round at the USEP Gym last Jan. 31. Last year, Cabalquinto captured the WBC Asian Boxing Council super lightweight title via a 8th round TKO victory over Singwangcha at the Almendras gym. Singwangcha suffered a deep cut on the left eyebrow and bloodied nose during the bout. Cabalquinto also retained his Philippine title by knocking out challenger Jovany Rota in the 6th round at the Almendras gym on June 28, 2014. He later pummeled to submission Elmer Legaria in 2:58 of the first round on Aug. 23, 2014 also at the Almendras gym. ?Magandang match-up kung sakali sila Crawford at Cabalquinto. Pareho ng edad at taas at wala pang talo. Southpaw si Cabalquinto at orthodox si Crawford,? said matchmaker Joven Jimenez. The 27-year old Crawford, also a former WBO world lightweight champion, is undefeated with 26 wins, 18 knockouts and no loss or draw. He won the WBO world super lightweight crown via 6th round TKO over Thomas Dulorme last April 18 at the University of Texas in Arlington, Texas. The 5-foot-8 Crawford, however, is already scheduled to defend his title against Dierry Jean (29-1-0) on October 24 at the Century Link Center in Omaha, Nebraska. ?
