ELORDE GETS ANOTHER WIN!

Bai Elorde

PARANAQUE CITY, PHILIPPINES--The grandson of the great Gabriel 'Flash' Elorde continues to show great promise in only his second pro fight.

At Friday night's 'Boxing Kontra Droga,' Juan Martin 'Bai' Elorde took on Leo Albao, and came out firing.

Elorde, who came into the ring cheered by relatives and friends, started strong in the opening round, and sent down Albao for the count in the dying seconds of the first round before putting on a splendid display of ring smarts.

A big right from Elorde again sent Albao kissing the canvas in the remaining seconds of the fourth round, making for an emphatic win.

Judges Raul Canlas, Salvador Lopez and Ramon Flores all scored 40-34 for Elorde, to the delight of the crowd.

In the main event, Dennis Laurente of the Philippines retained his Pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) lightweight crown with a 12th-round technical knockout win over interim champ Hero Katili last night at the Elorde Sports Center's Flash Grand Ballroom here.

Laurente was dominant all throughout, and capped the show with a big left that sent Katili down for the count in the final round, prompting his corner to ask the referee to stop the bout at 2:02 of the 12th round.

Laurente put on a aggressive performance in the earlier rounds, punishing Katili with body shots and big lefts to the face. As the rounds wore on, Laurente's workrate seemed to slow down, but he continued to score points with body shots while getting out of his taller foes rights and hooks.

Katili fought with a bloodied nose starting in the second round, and had a huge welt under his right eye starting in the third.

All three judges had Laurente leading by a comfortable margin before the end of the bout.

In the chief support, RP featherweight boss Vinvin Rufino retained his crown with a tenth round unanimous technical decision verdict over challenger Victor Man-on.

The night's most applauded fighter, however, was Juan Martin 'Bai' Elorde who scored yet another win by dominating Leo Albao in his second pro fight.

Ex-PABA champ Pederito Laurente also scored a unanimous decision verdict over Joebar Damosmog.

Other results: Jeno Quilitar prevailed on a majority decision over Rey Ramos; Jayson Rotoni stopped Climer Mendoza in the opening round; while Arvin Escamilla and Jonard Abonales figured in a draw.
