Oberio, Bernardino, Talaboc power QC past Isabela in PCAP chess tilt By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Wed, 13 May 2026 National Master Aglipay Oberio, National Master Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr. and Freddie Talaboc powered the IIEE-PSME-Quezon City Simba's Tribe to a 12-9 victory over National Master Gerardo Cabellon-led Isabela Knights of Alexander in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) online chess tournament thru Chess.com platform on Monday, May 11, 2026. Oberio swept Servillano Obana Jr. in their blitz and rapid showdown and so did Bernardino blasted Lordwin Espiritu and Talaboc toppled Marvin Phua to help propel the Simba's Tribe to tie at seventh and eight place in the Northern Conference with a 7-11 mark, the same output of Isabela (7-11). Also delivering for Quezon City were Woman National Master Rusela Joya-Magsino, and Leonardo Navarro. Joya defeated Diana Banawa in blitz but was beaten in the rapid portion. Navarro beat Francisco Cabe Jr. in blitz but held into a draw in the rapid game. Cabellon, in the meantime led Isabela to beat Jamie Hizon in blitz then subdued National Master Gerald Ferriol in rapid. Anwar Cabugatan also gave the good fight for Isabela after crushing Francis Talaboc, both in blitz and rapid. Quezon City defeated Isabela in the blitz portion, 5-2, but ended in a draw, 7-7, in rapid. Team Manager Engr. Allan Anthony Alvarez had something to say about his players: "A big shout-out to IIEE-PSME-Quezon City Simba's Tribe for an incredible performance against Isabela Knights of Alexander. It is great to see all their hard work result in such a big win. Way to go to IIEE-PSME-Quezon City Simba's Tribe," said Engr. Alvarez, who is also the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines (IIEE) National Past President. The tournament was organized by PCAP, headed by President/Commissioner Atty. Paul Elauria and Chairman Michael Angelo Ong Chua, and sanctioned by the Games and amusements Board (GAB), led by Chairman Atty. Francisco J.
