Delada Defends RP 'Light' Crown Tonight!
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Fri, 15 Dec 2006
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY--Dynamite-fisted Philippine lightweight king Dexter 'Dinamita' Delada of the Wakee Salud Stable defends his national 135-lb tiara tonight in a 12-round rumble with challenger Arnel Porras at the Gusa Sports Complex here.
This will be Delada's first defense of the title he won in impressive fashion by stopping Christopher Saluday last July 25 in Dapitan City.
At yesterday's weigh-in, Delada came in at 135 lbs, while Porras checked in at 133 lbs.
Delada, 16-4 with 11 KO's, stakes his title against the Kidapawan City-raised Porras, who is coming off several wins in Australia.
"This is an important fight for him. A win sets him up for big fights abroad," said fight promoter and Delada's manager Rex 'Wakee' Salud, who will not be at ringside for the fight tonight after missing a boat trip bound for Cagayan for failure to bring his personal effects. Salud, however, will fly straight to General Santos City to grace the birthday celebration of the iconic Manny Pacquiao.
On the undercard, Bogie Delada, younger brother of Dexter, trades mitts with Bohol sensation Isidro Balabat in a 10-round encounter, while local boy Abdul Simo of Donald Ampalayohan Stable takes on Mambajao-based banger Dave Cris.
"If the two Delada brothers make it tonight, they will be in for bigger fights as Boss Wakee has already made plans for them," said RWS trainer Brix Flores in an interview here.
