NABA Super Featherweight Champion Logan McGuinness and Marc Pagcaliwangan Ready for ?The Fast and The Furious? By Rob Cruz PhilBoxing.com Sat, 08 Dec 2012 ![]() Toronto, Canada - One of the brightest names in Canadian Boxing is fighting Irishman Logan ?Cotton? McGuinness who is a fan favorite due to his come forward style of fighting and the tremendous number of loyal fans that cheer for him. The undefeated Logan McGuinness (18W-0L-1D, 9KO) makes his sixth title defence at ?The Fast and The Furious? next Friday at the Montreal Bell Center against Carlos Manuel Reyes (23W-1L-1D, 15KO) of the Dominican Republic. Logan McGuinness wrapped up his sparring just a few days ago with one of his regular sparring partners Filipino-Canadian Marc ?Gwapo? Pagcaliwangan who will also see action on the same card. Both pugilists are in tremendous shape and are primed for their fights next Friday. McGuinness threw timely jab combos on the young Filipino and expects to elevate his intensity like never before against Carlos Manuel Reyes at The Bell Center. The Champion will showcase his pugilistic skills in the Mecca of Canadian boxing and states that the fans in attendance will see an even better version of him compared to all his previous fights. Will McGuinness raise his offensive aggression, go in a higher gear with his ring generalship or hit harder than ever before? Whatever it maybe, it will unfold on Dec.14. McGuinness has had a couple of career wins over the last few years; he considers the fight with Benoit Gaudet (who previously fought and lost to Humberto Soto) the most difficult fight of his career because of Gaudet?s odd style and body movement. McGuinness has also been rocked in the late rounds by surging Mexican Daniel Ruiz (who recently fought and lost to Rey Bautista) McGuinness won that fight with a majority decision. In defence of his NABA title, McGuinness steps up in competition in order to move up to the world ranking, he considers Carlos Manuel Reyes who has 25 fights under his belt a potential threat to his title and has just recently seen his opponent?s fights. The challenger Carlos Manuel Reyes? only loss came from undefeated Nicolas ?The Axe Man? Walters, who will be fighting today for a WBA World Featherweight title against Daulis Prescott. In this training camp that just concluded for ?The Fast and The Furious?, Logan McGuinness and his Coach Ryan Grant states that they had a successful and very controlled training camp and sparred approximately 50 rounds . The Young Filipino-Canadian Phenom and 3 time Golden Gloves Champion Marc ?Gwapo? Pagcaliwangan continues to evolve into a slick and quick Pugilist heading into his second fight. The time and efforts put in by his coach and fellow Filipino-Canadian Socrates Celestial?s style of boxing has started to show on Pagcaliwangan after 5 months together of training together. When Pagcaliwangan was first matched up with Coach Socrates, his style of boxing was purely toe to toe complemented with a granite chin found in the best Filipino Fighters. Presently, Pagcaliwangan has transformed into a multi-dimensional Pugilist that emulates different fighting styles which will go a long way in his young career. For his second fight, it is expected that the Champion Logan McGuinness and the highly appraised Filipino-Canadian Pugilist will walk out and duke it out in front of the largest crowd thus far in their young careers at ?The Fast and The Furious?. McGuinness is seasoned with 19 fights while this is a very big step for Pagcaliwangan, both fighting in the largest and biggest fight card to close out the year promoted by Yvon Michel of GYM Groupe Yvon Michel and co-promoted by Hennessy Sports Canada. Due to sanctioning incidents and complexities of selecting opponents, there has been a couple of switch ups of opponents for Marc Pagcaliwangan. The first choice of opponent was the undefeated Kyle McNeil (5W-0L) which was not sanctioned by the Quebec Athletic Commission over 6 rounds. Very recently, another opponent was found from Slovakia and then, talks fell through. A new opponent has been found who has 14 fights and 4 victories. It will be Marc Pagcaliwangan vs Richard Voros from Hungary. Pagcaliwangan is a training machine who has been transformed by his Coach Socrates Celestial into a cross fit athlete in world class condition. He can spar with the local Champions here up to 12 rounds and hold his own; however Team Pagcaliwangan must take it one fight at a time and wait in the wings for the big fights that will make him a champion one day. Although Pagcaliwangan is still a work in progress, he is quite an anomaly for someone at his level. The NABA Super Featherweight Champion Logan McGuinness who is definitely a World Class Pugilist in every way is a role model and friend to Marc Pagcaliwangan. It?s a beautiful and respectful working relationship that has been instrumental to the young Filiipino-Canadian?s development. A year ago when he was still an amateur, Pagcaliwangan would probably never believe that he would be fighting in the same card as Jean Pascal and Logan McGuinness, dreams do come true.
