NBA -- Pistons overpower Blazers, 108-101
By T. Hubahib PhilBoxing.com Tue, 27 Nov 2012

DETROIT -- The Detroit Pistons found a remedy for their shooting woes: shoot the ball as close to the hoop as possible.
Using that formula, the Pistons dropped 58 points in the paint to beat the visiting Portland Trail Blazers, 108-101, Monday night at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Michigan. The win improved the Pistons record to 4-11 and it snapped their 12-game losing streak against Western Conference opponents.
By plowing the shaded lane, the Pistons converted 42 of their 80 field goals for a high 52.5 percent clip. It also didn't hurt that Detroit swished nine of 15 triples and 15 of 22 free throws.
Point guard Brandon Knight, a second year pro, showed the poise of a grizzled veteran to lead the Pistons with 26 points, six rebounds and two assists. The 6-foot-3, 189-pounder sank nine of 17 field goals, three of six 3s, and all five of his free throws. Knight soundly outplayed counterpart Damian Lillard, a rookie sensation who logged 12 points, seven assists and three rebounds for the Blazers, who fell to 6-8 in the standings.
Detroit center Greg Monroe chalked a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Rodney Stuckey and Jason Maxiell had 11 apiece while Tayshaun Prince and Charlie Villanueva combined for 20 for the Pistons.
Portland kept it close with nine lead changes and six ties, but in the end, the Blazers' poor shooting -- 36-of-85 from the field (42.4 percent) couldn't get the job done. The Blazers missed 13 of 19 threes and they made only 23 of 31 free throws.
LaMarcus Aldridge had a solid 32 points and 10 rebounds that went to waste in the Blazers' defeat. Wesley Matthews also pumped in 19 for the Blazers, who were outworked off the boards, 47-42. (T. Hubahib)
