FILIPINO VINCENT PALICTE 100% PREPARED TO WIN WBO ASIA PACIFIC BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE ON AUGUST 16 PhilBoxing.com Tue, 07 Aug 2012 Vincent "Popeye" Palicte (14-3-1, 7 KOs) of Bago City, Negros Occidental, Philippines is all set for his upcoming fight on August 16 at the Mandaluyong City Sports Complex, Metro Manila, Philippines against fellow Filipino Frederix Rodriguez (8-2-1, 6 KOs) from Bukidnon Province located at Mindanao island, southern Philippines. Up for grabs will be the vacant WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight Championship, which was recently relinquished by AJ "Bazooka" Banal of the famed ALA Boxing Gym of Cebu City, Philippines when he officially announced his scheduled fight against Thai WBO No. 2 bantamweight Pungluang Sor Singyu on October 20 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila for the vacant WBO bantamweight world crown. Palicte, 26, is managed by Jason Soong of Planet Jupiter Boxing Gym of Makati City, Metro Manila. According to Palicte, "I am 100% prepared physically and mentally for this fight. I have been training for this fight for 4 months now. I have sparred over 100 rounds. I don't want to waste this opportunity because I was promised to be placed in the WBO world rankings in the bantamweight division should I win this fight against Rodriguez." For his part, Soong stated that "I have never seen Vincent so focused in preparing for a fight. Discipline and dedication has been Vincent's motto in our training for this fight. I am very confident that we will get that WBO Asia Pacific belt." Popeye had two fights this year beating Ryan Soliveres by 4th round knockout in a scheduled ten round bout on March 11 at Mandaluyong City and scoring another big KO win over Ricky Oyan last May 11 at the northernmost place in the Philippines called Aparri. Rodriguez, 24, has won all of his first seven fights, five of which were big knockouts in either the first or the second round. In his most recent fight, Rodriguez blasted away John Paul Apolinario in the very first round on his way to another KO victory in the opening round. That fight was held in Bukidnon only last April 28 this year. The fight card is promoted by Joven Sports Promotions owned by the young and hardworking Joven Jimenez. Aside from being a promoter himself, Jimenez also juggles his activities in boxing as a manager and trainer at the Top Contender Boxing Gym based in Muntinlupa City. Jimenez is the same person who manages WBO rated No. 2 and IBF rated No. 3 Froilan ?The Sniper? Saludar who is undefeated in 16 fights with 11 big wins by knockout. Jimenez for his part said "This boxing show is considered the formal launching of my promotional company. I lost a lot of sleep in the past 5 months just to make sure this promotion will push through. Now, after the hard work, this is it. I am very excited to introduce my promotional company to the Philippines and to the world. Just like any boxing promoter, my ultimate dream is to produce the next Filipino world champion. This August 16 promotion of mine will be the first step towards that ultimate dream." This boxing event will be covered by GMA TV Network for its top-rated sports show ?ALL SPORTS? telecast Sundays at 9:30 a.m. over GMA News TV 11 hosted by leading Filipino sports journalist, Chino Trinidad.
