PINOY PRIDE XIV: POST FIGHT QUOTES FROM SALGUERO, GELES AND GARCIA By Mike Angel Lopez PhilBoxing.com Thu, 07 Jun 2012 This past Saturday night at the Resorts World in Manila, the tough grilled Mexicans and Columbian boxers gave their analysis after their losses from their Filipino combatants. The first fight of the three main events of the night pitted seasoned hard hitting and well experienced Genaro ?Poblanito? Garcia against ALA Promotions hot and rising young star Genesis ?Azucal? Servania for the vacant WBC Silver International Super Bantamweight title. "I was very impressed with the speed and power that Servania had," says Garcia. "I came well prepared for this fight and was surprised and shocked that this young kid did what he did to me. He totally made me feel that I was fighting against a world champion, which was how Servania fought me, like a world champion," added Garcia. Garcia wishes Servania all the best and hopes this kid moves up the ladder for a world title shot in the near future. The second big fight of the night was between former World Champion Jesus Geles of Columbia against one of the top boxers of ALA Promotions Milan ?El Metodico? Melindo for the vacant WBO International Flyweight title. Geles said, "The body shots I took from Melindo were the hardest I ever felt in my life. Coming into this fight, we saw videos of Melindo and knew he loves to work on the body, but I was stopped in my tracks with those hard, solid and precision body shots of Melindo. Melindo will soon become a world champion." The main event of the night pitted WBO World Light Flyweight Champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes of the Philippines vs. the former WBF Light Flyweight Champion from Mexico, Felipe Salguero. "We knew that the best arsenal of Nietes is his right uppercut and we practiced on keeping the left hand up to defect the uppercut," says Salguero. "Nietes has a lot more experience than me and I learned a lot in this hard fought fight. I am still young and will learn from this fight and move on to fight for a world title again. Nietes is fast and a smart boxer with a devastating uppercut and has power in his shots. I wish him the best in the future. I will go back to Mexico and improve on my arsenal and keep fighting, and knowing I had a good fight in a world championship fight and it was a learning experience. I took the best shots from Nietes and was still standing. I will be back," added Salguero. Mike A. Lopez michaellopez95205@yahoo.com Top photo: Melindo buckles Geles after a series of body shots.
