CHAVEZ JR SCORES GREAT TKO WIN OVER MANFREDO JR
By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sun, 20 Nov 2011

Last weekend at the MGM Grand Top Rank put a sizzler called Pacquiao-Marquez 3. It was a fight that drew the crowds and a fight that generated lots of controversy. In short, a snoozer wasn?t.
Tonight at the Reliant Arena at Houston, Texas Top Rank put up another good one albeit not as exciting as last weekend.
But still it was a good one.
Cesar Chavez Jr., the much hyped WBC Middleweight champ and son of a legend, staked his crown against the pride of Providence, Rhode Island, Peter Manfredo Jr.
It was Mexico vs. Italy.
Chavez Jr started slow but eventually warmed up and started banging Manfredo around the ring in the first three rounds winning all three of them.
In the fourth Manfredo finally started to connect hitting Chavez with hard shots that bloodied his nose. Chavez however came back strong at the end of the round but Manfredo won the round.
Early in the 5th Manfredo scored two great shots that seem to stun Chavez. But Chavez came back and hit Manfredo with a good right that clearly hurt him.
Chavez then fired several unanswered shots leading referee Lawrence Cole to step in and stop the fight.
Although Manfredo did not seem to be totally helpless, it was a good stoppage because it prevented further punishment.
Chavez won via TKO at 1:52 of round no. 5.
