Pacquiao is 4-1 favorite over Larios, say Vegas betting houses
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Fri, 26 May 2006
Fire-breathing Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao is tabbed as the early favorite to win over Mexican star Oscar Larios when they clash on July 2 in the main event of the Mano-A-Mano card at the Araneta Coliseum.
According to a report by Box-latino, citing Las Vegas betting houses, the southpaw Pacquiao is a 4-1 betting favorite this early to repulse the busy-punching Larios. Thus, a $100-dollar bet on Pacquiao will only win $25 dollars, while a $25 dollar bet on Larios nets $100 in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao is currently in Los Angeles, training at the Wild Card Gym under the supervision of renowned trainer Freddie Roach and his protege Filipino trainer Buboy Fernandez.
Roach, who is credited for turning Pacquiao into a one-man wrecking crew, has implemented a closed-door policy when Pacquiao trains at the gym, as he wants the Filipino icon to be 100-percent focused on his daily tasks at hand. Too much distraction had been blamed in Pacquiao's loss to Erik Morales in their first encounter.
Larios, for his part, is currently training in his country and is set to fly to Japan next month for a month-long training in Tokyo before flying to Manila for the fight.
While in Japan, the taller Larios is set to spar with boxers belonging to the Teiken Gym owned by Japanese boxing impresario Akihiko Honda.
