FILIPINAS EXCEL WHILE KOREA AND CHINA HAVE A BAD DAY AT YALIN WOMEN'S WORLD 10-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP

PhilBoxing.com

Diminutive Filipinas Rubilen Amit and Iris Ranola got off to a spectacular start in the Yalin Women?s World 10-ball Championships at Robinson?s Galleria while two of the giants in women's pool, had a tough start with their noted stars suffering early setbacks.

On the main TV table Ranola with the hometown fans applauding her shot-making stunned the 2010 World 9-Ball champion Xiaofang Fu of China 6-3.

The Chinese girl raced to a 2-0 lead but Dragon Promotions Charlie Williams reported that she ?soon lost control of the match as the persistent Ranola kept the pressure on with accurate shot-making.?

Amit who emerged as a local pool heroine when she won the inaugural staging of the Women?s World 10-Ball Championships and finished third last year didn?t let her fans down winning both her matches over Russia and Taiwan..

China suffered a second setback when World No.1 Siming Chen joined Xiaofang Fu also lost her opening match while Korea's powerhouse team of Yu Ram Cha, Eunji Park, and Yun Mi Lim were also beaten.

A super tough match-up between World No. 1 Siming Chen of China and Korea's lovely pro star Yu Ram Cha had all the drama one could expect. With Cha leading at 5-2 needing only 1 game to close out the match, she made an error on an easy shot and gave Chen the chance she needed to mount a 6-5 comeback. But Chen was then in turn suffered a stunning upset at the hands of Japan's unheralded Keiko Yukawa 6-2.

Cha also furthered her misery with a 6-3 loss to Belgium's unknown Khodjeava. Cha will need to win her next 3 matches to give her a chance to qualify for the final stage of the World Championship.

Korea's Erica Eunji Park suffered a 6-5 loss to Britain's Kelly Fisher after being in control 4-2. Park bounced back with a 6-3 win over France's Dos Santos. Yun Mi Lim, a former quarter-finalist at the World Championship, had an unlucky draw and had to play her close friend Ga Young Kim. Kim, a two-time World 9-Ball Champion. Kim won 6-4 and emerged as the only undefeated Korean of the four attending.

Play continues today with live coverage on Balls and Studio 23 of ABS-CBN.
