MAYOL SET TO RETURN IN JULY

TOKYO--Rodel `Batang Mandaue` Mayol is set to return to ring action in July, as he aims to get busy following his heart-breaking loss at the hands of WBC minimumweight champion Eagle Kyowa last May 6 here.
Yasuo Matsuoka, Mayol`s manager, has informed that no less than WBC president Jose Sulaiman has sent a congratulatory message to Mayol despite the loss, informing the latter that the Mexico-based organization took so much pride in his heroic stance against Kyowa, resulting in what is considered an early candidate for Fight of the Year honors.
Matsuoka also took full responsibility for the loss, and refused to blame anyone in Mayol`s camp, while saying that he was sorry that his boy did not win the crown owing to `my own mistakes.`
Matsuoka, however, reiterated his plans to send Mayol to a world-class trainer like Freddie Roach in the United States, indicating that his ward deserves no less.
Top Filipino promoter Rex `Wakee` Salud, who is currently here accompanying his ward Jimrex Jaca vie for the OPBF super-featherweight crown, said that Mayol is being penciled in to see action on the last week of July against a Mexican opponent, in a card that will also include some other top Filipino fighters.
`I will most likely get a Mexican opponent for Mayol. That`s my plan right now,` said Salud, who had conferred with Matsuoka regarding future plans.
