SULAIMAN SAYS CUELLO NEVER GAVE PEREZ A CHANCE

PhilBoxing.com

World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman says Filipino straw-weight Denver Cuello gave Mexican Carlos Perez no chance in their Silver title fight at the International Convention Center in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico last Sunday, Manila Time.

A devastating puncher, Cuello, nicknamed ?The Excitement? and ranked No. 2 by the WBC, won the Silver title with a spectacular 1st round knockout of No. 5 Perez who was counted out by referee Tellis Asimenius.

Sulaiman told Viva Sports that Cuello ?went into the ring to win; he came out of his corner to throw punches and gave no chance to P?rez. He finished the fight with a long powerful left hook to Perez's stomach.?

The WBC president noted that P?rez ?had never been dominated like that in his career. After the body punch he stayed on the canvas for long time and had difficult breathing ?

Sulaiman said ?there is no doubt that he will be rated as a Silver Champion, which is becoming quite popular for the close opportunity for a title that it gives him? even as he informed us that all title fights will be discussed at our convention in Las Vegas ; from December 11 to 17 at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel and Casino.

Mexican media reported that Cuello reddened the face of Perez with an early assault before he nailed the Mexican with some powerful punches that sent Perez crashing to the canvas where he remained for some time.

With the win Cuello improves his record to 29-4-6 with 19 knockouts while the hapless Perez dropped to 12-3-3 with 8 knockouts.

Cuello?s manager, former boxer Aljoe Jaro said in Mexico they refer to his fighter as an animal even though he smiles a lot and is well-liked by the fans.

Jaro indicated that initial plans by Canelo Promotions for Cuello to fight top contender Ganigan Lopez in December has to be postponed since current champion Kazuto Ioka wants to have one more title defense on December 13 before he moves up in weight.

Because of this development Aljoe Jaro said they would look to defend the newly-won silver belt in Mexico possibly on December 10 before going after the world title in 2012.
