CHAD DAWSON WINS VIA BIZARRE TKO OVER BERNARD HOPKINS (PHOTOS)
By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sun, 16 Oct 2011

Downtown Los Angeles: Tonight at the Staples Center right smack in the middle of the new multi-billion development center called LA Live, Oscar de la Hoya?s company, the GBP held a fight card billed as ?Believe It Or Not- Hopkins vs, Dawson.?
True to its billing, the end result of the fight was worthy of Ripley?s famous series that were always unbelievable.
The main event ended in a very bizarre manner perhaps more worthy of being an MMA event rather that a boxing card.
Chad Dawson of New Haven Connecticut who at age 29 was fighting an opponent Bernard Hopkins of Philadelphia, a fighter 17 years his senior was declared the winner by TKO at 2:48 of round 2. In the process he walked away with the WBC and Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight title.
Hopkins was a victim of a very weird circumstance.
Late in the second round, Hopkins threw a punch and Dawson ducked. He landed on the back of Dawson who immediately tried to dislodge him by pushing his body up, a move that is more appropriate for MMA than boxing.
Hopkins was thrown clear under the lowest rope and hit his shoulder on the edge of the ring allegedly hurting it.
Referee Pat Russel who was right next to the two checked on Hopkins perhaps expecting him to get up. But alas, the now ex-champion must have been really hurt and he failed to get up immediately as expected.
Since Hopkins was unable to continue, the ruling was he lost by technical knock-out although what brought about the incident was not a legal move in boxing.
The people at the Staples disagreed with the results and booed loudly. But that did not change the bizarre ending and the fight results.
