TITLE FIGHT AWAITS CUELLO IF HE BEATS CARLOS PEREZ

PhilBoxing.com

A world title shot at current No.1 WBC minimum weight Ganigan Lopez awaits Filipino WBC International minimum weight champion Denver Cuello if he beats Mexico?s Carlos Perez in a battle for the Silver belt at the International Convention Center in Chetumal, Mexico, tomorrow Manila Time.

Cuello is ranked No. 2 by the WBC while Perez is rated No.4.

A report frm Mexico said that WBC executive secretary Mauricio Sulaiman has given his initial blessings to a possible clash for the vacant title between Cuello and Ganigan Lopez should Kazuto Ioka of Japan relinquish his title to move up in weight later this year.

A WBC report from Chetumal said that ?the heat is suffocating even though autumn is near.?

Perez is bigger and taller than the hard-hitting Cuello, a prot?g? of former boxer and current manager Aljoe Jaro but this doesn?t faze the tough Filipino who is known for his devastating knockout power with a record of 18 knockouts in 28 wins with 4 defeats and 6 draws.

Perez has a record of 12-3-3 with 8 knockouts. He won the WBC Latino title on May 19, 2009 with a 5th round TKO over Jose Alfredo Zuniga who was dropped twice in round five before the fight was stopped.

He successfully defended his Latino title with an 11th round knockout over Moises Calleros on July 30, 2010 but hasn?t fought since then according to boxrec.com which may prove to be a drawback.

Cuello, on the other hand, is a 24 year old southpaw who has been busy. He won his last six fights by stoppage ? one knockout and five TKOs following a 3rd round disqualification by referee Gerardo Venzor in a title eliminator against Julian Hernandez on May 22, 2010.

Cuello won the vacant WBC International title with a 4th round TKO over Japan?s Hiroshi Matsumoto on April19, 2009. Cuello decked Matsumoto once in rounds three and four with the fight being called off by American referee Gene Del Bianco at 0:43 seconds of round four.

In his last fight Cuello scored a 3rd round knockout in a scheduled six round bout against Sebastian Arcos who was sent to the canvas twice in the second round and once in the third before the referee called a halt at 2:24 of the third round.
