MAYWEATHER VOWS ORTIZ WON?T LAST THE DISTANCE

PhilBoxing.com

Undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr vows that WBC welterweight champion Victor ?Vicious? Ortiz won?t last the distance when they clash at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Sunday, Manila Time.

The fight will be telecast in the Philippines beginning at 10:00 a.m. over Solar Sports and ABC Channel 5 with a replay at 7:00 p.m. over AKTV IBC Channel 13. It will also be telecast in Australia and the Middle East ?live? on pay per view over The Filipino Channel of ABS-CBN.

In a final pre-fight press conference a supremely confident Mayweather who has an unblemished record of 41-0 said ?I believe in my skills. I believe in my talent, this fight will not go the distance."

Mayweather made the claim despite a long 16 month layoff in what some boxing writers believe is an intriguing matchup against a young slugger who can punch and is ten years ago who has himself vowed to give Mayweather his first loss.

In a face-off with Ortiz Mayweather shouted ?I'm going to finish you off."

Mayweather claimed he hasn?t any problems with his weight and is already tipping the scales at the 147 pound welterweight limit for his title showdown ?Star Power? with Ortiz.

Ortiz won the title with an upset win over Andre Berto in his last fight in April, coming back from two knockdowns to win a twelve round decision. Now Ortiz says "America wants to see change, and change is coming soon," referring to his fight versus Mayweather.

Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya who handles Ortiz said the 24 year old "has a real heart. He's a fighter who has been down and always gets back up. Every opponent he's faced has touched the canvas."

However, De La Hoya concedes that "It's a completely different stage" adding that " You either crumble under the lights or you shine like there is no tomorrow.?

Mayweather?s uncle and trainer Roger Mayweather says he?s seen enough of Ortiz on tape to be able to formulate a solid game plan for the fight.

Roger Mayweather told boxing writer Steve Carp of the Las Vegas Review Journal that Ortiz ?is a good fighter. But good is one thing. The best is another. And Ortiz is fighting the best in my nephew.?
