GEALE RETAINS IBF MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 04 Sep 2011 Tasmania?s Daniel Geale has retained his IBF middleweight crown with a unanimous twelve round decision over American Eromosele Albert in Hobart. The 30-year-old Tasmanian outlasted Albert before more than 5,000 fans at the Derwent Entertainment Centre. Geale was too quicknimble for an opponent who was seven years older at 37 and was able to handle whatever the challenger threw at him. It was Geale?s first defense of the title he won from Germany's Sebastian Sylvester last May. It was Geale?s 25th win in 26 fights. In a post fight interview Geale said "I hope you guys like a war, because goddamn that was a war.My right hand was buggered the whole way through, and he's a tough guy. I told everyone before that I'm not here to take easy fights. this guy was a tough guy - he gave me a real fight." Geale said he battled through the pain of an injury to his right hand. He clarified that it was ? just a little thing that happened in training ... it's nothing too major, it just hurts every time I punch." Geale said "I caught him with a couple of good left hooks too" and was able to overcome the big shots of Albert. The champion said his plan was to make it difficult for the tough Albert saying "I wasn't just going to sit there and let him tee off because that's what he wanted to do." The beaten challenger claimed he was frustrated with Geale?s hit and run tactics and said "It's difficult to fight someone who doesn't want to fight." he said. However, Albert commended Geale saying he is ? a pretty good fighter, a different fighter from me. He's very technical and boxed very well. It's tough to trap him down sometimes. He'd switch to left, and then he'd switch to right." Geale said he plans to take a break before thinking about his next fight.
