PACQUIAO-MARQUEZ III NOT A DONE DEAL AS YET
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 19 May 2011

While Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez may have accepted the terms given him by Top Rank Promotions for a third fight against pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao, its still not a done deal.
Pacquiao's adviser Michael Koncz told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that he is scheduled to meet with Top Rank promoter Bob Arum today (Wednesday) in Los Angeles "to discuss the various options of Manny's purse."
Koncz said that he would then relay the terms and conditions given him by Arum to Pacquiao when he (Koncz) returns to Manila on Sunday.
He insisted that nothing is final until he talks to Pacquiao who will then decide on whether the terms and conditions offered by Arum are acceptable to him.
Marquez will receive his biggest payday of a guaranteed $5 million purse plus an upside of $5 for every pay-per-view buy above 700,000.
In the event that he beats Pacquiao there is a rematch clause which guarantees Marquez a purse of $10 million.
Pacquiao and Marquez battled each other in two exciting, action-packed bouts which ended in controversy. In the first bout despite dropping Marquez three times in the very first round, Marquez counter-punched his way to salvage a draw.
In the rematch, Pacquiao won a narrow split decision in which a knockdown he scored in round three saved the day for Pacquiao who, in nthe process won the WBC lightweight title.
Their third fight is scheduled to be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on November 12.
Koncz earlier talked about a third Marquez fight with boxing writer Lem Satterfield on boxingscene.com in which Koncz said "It's been shown that if you knock the guy (Marquez) down that many times, he's still very resilient and he gets back up and he's got Manny figured out. So I think that it's a very difficult fight and that's why I need to make certain that the financial rewards for Manny are valid enough to take that fight."
