PACQUIAO SPARRING PARTNER BELTRAN BEATEN IN CLOSE FIGHT
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sat, 14 May 2011

Pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao?s longtime sparring partner Raymund Beltran has lost a very close ten round bout to undefeated lightweight Sharif ?The Lion? Bogere at Buffalo Bill?s Star Arena in Primm, Nevada.
The 22 year old Ugandan who fights out of Las Vegas edged Beltran in a bloody, action-packed bout with all three judges scoring the fight for Bogere. Two judges had it 96-94 while the third judge gave Bogere the nod by a wider 97-93 margin. However, commentators Steve Farhood and Curt Menefe of Showtime had the fight a draw.
Bogere won the vacant North American Boxing Organization lightweight title with the win.
Beltran and Bogere were both cut during a number of accidental head clashes in a bout where Pacquiao?s sparring partner was clearly the aggressor and should have benefited from a knockdown in round eight when he caught Bogere with a cracking left uppercut which saw him grab Beltran while going down.
However, referee Robert Byrd didn?t rule it a knockdown which ultimately could have made the difference in the scorecards with many ringsiders believing Beltran deserved the nod or at least a draw.
The 29 year old Beltran?s counter left hook worked for him throughout the fight even as he outhustled Bogere in the infighting although Bogere displayed his skills in the later rounds to gain the unanimous decision. The win improved his record to 20-0 with 13 knockouts. The veteran Beltran dropped to 24-5 with 16 knockouts.
Beltran suffered a cut on his left eye in the third round as a result of an accidental clash of heads while Bogere had a nasty g ash across his left eyelid at the end of the fourth round but both fighters didn?t seem to be bothered by the flow of blood and gave fight fans a memorable bout.
