By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 09 May 2011
Hard-hitting Ronald Pontillas stunned undefeated Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation super featherweight champion Masao Nakamura, dropping the lanky Japanese twice in the very first round to score a sensational TKO at 1:01 of the round at the Prefectural Gymnasium in Osaka on Sunday evening.
Pontillas who won the vacant Philippine title with a twelve round split decision over James Bacon last December 5 was the aggressor against Nakamura, ranked No. 6 in the world by the WBA.
Nakamura had won the title from another Filipino, Allan Tanada on December 5, 2010.
Tanada dropped Nakamura in the second round but couldn?t put him away allowing the Japanese to come back, drop Tanada in the 5th round en route to a TKO win.
With the win the 21 year old Pontillas improved his record to 12-3-3 with 6 knockouts while Nakamura dropped to 12-1 with 12 knockouts.
Over at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Filipina Jujeath Nagawoa was stopped at 1:32 of the fifth round against WBC female light flyweight champion Naomi Togashi who proved too good for the game Filipina forcing referee Katsuhiko Nakamura to call a halt at 1:32 of the fifth round.
It was Nagaowa?s third consecutive loss in title fights. She was coming off a ten round unanimous decision loss to Teeraporn Pannimit of Thailand in a WBO female minimum weight title fight last November 22 after earlier losing by a ten round majority decision in a Women?s International Boxing Association title fight to Ju Hee Kim of South Korea.
