MAYOL WINS MAJORITY DECISION
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Sun, 08 May 2011

Former WBC light flyweight champion Rodel Mayol moved up to flyweight and won a majority decision over a game Javier Gallo of Mexico in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao- Shane Mosley showdown at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Sunday.
After a slow start in which Gallo appeared to enjoy a slight edge by pressing the action and using his left effectively to kerep Mayol at bay, the Filipino began to settle down and slowly turn the tide in the third round.
Using his vaunted left jab and following up with solid rights Mayol built his advantage over the durable Gallo who was backpedalling much of the round. In the fifth round caught Gallo with a good left combined with a cracking right hand and began to score almost at will as he mixed it up nicely with a flurry of three successive uppercuts while not getting hit in return.
Gallo tried to come back in round six and appeared to have at least a better round before both fighters began to tire and with their timing off the fight turned a little sloppy.
In the tenth and final round Mayol who won the WBC light flyweight title with a second round TKO over the highly fancied Edgar Sosa and lost it to another Mexican veteran Omar Nino Romero demonstrated his overall class with the sheer accumulation of punches taking its toll on Gallo who was bruised under the left eye and had a slight scratch above the right.
At the end of what the American TV commentators described as a very entertaining fight ,two of the judges Lisa Giampa and Jerry Roth had Mayol a comfortable winner 98-92 but the third judge, CJ RBoss, surprisingly scored the fight even at 95-95.
With the win Mayol improved his record to 28-5-2 with 21 knockouts while Gallo dropped to 17-4-1 with 9 knockouts.
