DANSECO TO RECEIVE ?BEST JUDGE? ACCOLADE AT ELORDE MEMORIAL AWARDS By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 22 Mar 2011  Young Rey Danseco, a boxing writer and commentator has deservedly been named the ?Best Judge? in the 11 Gabriel ?Flash? Elorde Memorial Boxing Awards to be held at the Grand Ballroom of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel on March 25. The 38 year old Danseco has been one of the youngest and most active Filipino judges in several WBC world championship bouts in the last four years. He is the first and only Filipino to work as a judge in Mexican boxing history. Danseco was first assigned by WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman to be one of the judges in the all-Mexican bout between ex-WBC light flyweight champ Eric Ortiz and Adrian Hernandez for the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) flyweight title; Mexican prospect Reyes Sanchez versus Orlando Membreno for the WBC Continental Americas lightweight title; and the WBC light flyweight title eliminator between Filipino Juanito Rubillar and Mexico?s former world champion Omar Nino Romero in Mexico City. Sulaiman and his son Mauricio, the WBC executive secretary have both told the Inquirer how impressed they have been with Danseco?s performance with the WBC president describing the Filipino as ?an excellent and fair judge.? In 2010 Danseco was assigned to work in six different WBC world title bouts including one in Japan, two in Thailand and three in Mexico, the home of the WBC which is regarded as the pre-eminent boxing organization in the world. Danseco has also officiated in WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) super flyweight title and WBC Youth World super flyweight title fights in various cities in Mexico as well as fights of Filipino boxers against Japanese, Thai, and Indonesian fighters in OPBF and WBC international title bouts. Also to be honored in the prestigious awards night and ?Banquet of Champions? will be former international referee-judge Carlos ?Sonny? Padilla, the 77 year old who carved a name for himself as referee in the celebrated Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier ?Thrilla in Manila? on October 1, 1975 at the Araneta Coliseum. Padilla will become the first recipient of the Lope ?Papa? Sarreal Milestone Award for his outstanding performance as third man in the ring.
