Gorres, Amonsot motor to Vegas on Sunday
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Fri, 27 Jan 2006
Z "The Dream" Gorres and Czar Amonsot, who are currently training at the Wild Card Card Gym in Los Angeles, are slated to motor to Sin City on Sunday in preparation for their respective bouts on February 3 at the Mardi Gras Ballroom of the Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas.
The southpaw Gorres will take on Jose Alfredo Tirado in the 10-round main event, while Amonsot goes up against Antonio Wong in an 8-round scrap supporting the mainer.
Also up in the card is the showdown between middleweights Joaquin Zamora and Clieton Conceicao, plus other exciting bouts.
Yesterday, Gorres sparred with WBC no. 1 superflyweight Jose Navarro while Amonsot went up against Mike Franco at the Wild Card Gym.
Gorres is also one of the chief sparmates to WBC junior flyweight champ Brian Viloria, who is defending his title on February 18 at the Alladin Hotel against ex-world champ Jose Antonio Aguirre. The "Hawaiian Punch" also spars with popular WBO Asia Pacific bantam king Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista.
"Gorres and Amonsot are now in top shape for their fight," reported ALA Gym chief trainer Edito "Ala" Villamor in an email to mediamen. Villamor, along with business agent Michael Koncz, will travel with the two boxers on Sunday to Las Vegas and will immediately hook up with Sammy "Don King" Gello-ani and Britain's Tony Martin, a long-time Cebu resident who is now based in Las Vegas. Martin will assist Roach and Villamor when the two talented boxers see action on February 3.
James Toney, the former WBC heavyweight champ who is also preparing for a showdown with WBC heavyweight champ Hasim Rahman on March 18 in Atlantic City, was at the gym when Gorres and Amonsot sparred yesterday.
