"S?LO BOXEO TECATE" RETURNS TO SAN DIEGO ON JANUARY 28

PhilBoxing.com

122-POUND PROSPECTS CHARLES HUERTA AND RAUL HIRALES JR. TO MEET IN TELEFUTURA MAIN EVENT

LOS ANGELES, January 20 - Rapidly becoming one of the hotspots for Southern California fight fans, the Four Points Sheraton in San Diego will open its doors once again for TeleFutura's "S?lo Boxeo Tecate" on Friday, January 28. The main event will be an exciting clash of junior featherweight prospects with Paramount's Charles Huerta meeting up with unbeaten Raul Hirales Jr.

The eight round main event, which headlines a night of world-class professional boxing, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and is sponsored by Cerveza Tecate and AT&T. Doors open at 6:00pm PT on fight night, the first bell rings at 7:00pm PT and the TeleFutura broadcast begins at 11:30pm ET / PT (10:30pm CT). Fans at home can also be part of the action by participating in Cintur?n Tecate and voting for the fighter in the main event who displayed the most character in the ring by sending a text message to 55333. Voting will be open through the end of the weekend.

In the co-main event, undefeated featherweight phenom Gary Russell Jr. makes his 2011 debut against an opponent to be named in an eight rounder.

Tickets, priced starting at $25, are on sale now and available for purchase at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel Gift Store or by calling (858) 277-8888 or (619) 420-8866.

With knockout power and an aggressive style, it's no wonder that 24-year-old Charles Huerta (16-1, 8 KO's) has garnered a sizeable fan following in Southern California over the last three years. Winner of five in a row since his lone loss to fellow prospect Derrick Wilson in 2009, Huerta made a statement in his most recent bout last December against Arturo Camargo as he dropped the 34-fight veteran twice en route to a hard-fought decision win. On January 28, he looks to pin the first loss on the record of Raul Hirales Jr.

A standout amateur who competed for Mexico in the World Junior Championships and the Pan American Games, La Paz' Raul Hirales Jr. (11-0-1, 7 KO's) has delivered a series of steady performances on his way up the 122-pound ladder. Looking to show that his amateur pedigree will translate into professional success, Hirales Jr. is intent on showing Huerta that he's ready for he might throw his way in San Diego.

Southpaw sensation Gary Russell Jr. (13-0, 9 KO's) gave himself a tough act to follow when you consider the stack of amateur accolades he compiled, but so far as a professional, he has made it clear that he isn't stopping without winning a few world titles. In 2010, the Washington DC native delivered the goods in rapid-fire fashion with seven wins, including a first round knockout of former World Champion Mauricio Pastrana in July and he promises even more memorable performances beginning with his 2011 debut this month.

Tecate, cerveza con car?cter, is the largest beer brand to sponsor boxing matches in the U.S. Part of its commitment to make boxing accessible to consumers is the title sponsorship of "S?lo Boxeo Tecate," which creates an opportunity for local fans to witness some of the most exhilarating fights by today's up-and-coming prospects. Additionally, Tecate has been a primary supporter of Golden Boy Promotions' marquee events since 2007, and has launched a variety of initiatives to ensure consumers are part of the boxing experience, including boxer autograph signing sessions, commemorative cans, PPV mail-in rebate offers, and most recently the launch of a mobile museum "Tecate Museo de Boxeo," which showcases decades of the most memorable moments in the sport.
