SECURITY BEEFED UP FOR BOXING BRAWL!! PhilBoxing.com Tue, 18 Jan 2011 Well known and internationally honored South African boxing promoter Branco Milenkovic has informed us that he's had to beef up security for what he's termed a Boxing Brawl. Here's Branco's news release. (Ronnie Nathanielsz) THE brawl that erupted between boxers Ruben Groenewald and Daniel Bruwer during a press conference at Carnival City on December 8 has forced promoter Branco Milenkovic to beef up security personnel when he calls another press briefing at the same venue on Tuesday, January 25 at 11:00. Bruwer and Groenewald were embroiled in a punch-up incident during the press conference announcing their January 29 cruiserweight clash scheduled to be held at the same venue. The brawl was sparked by insults the two fighters hurled at each other when one claimed he was better than the other. The full blown out brawl lasted a couple of seconds before the boxers were separated by their handlers. To avoid a similar occurrence Milenkovic confirmed that security personnel will be on high alert when the two fighters come up face to face again in the final press briefing. ?We cannot take chances this time after what happened there,? Milenkovic said. ?I was not aware that the animosity between Bruwer and Groenewald was that deep so I took things for granted in the first press conference. But this time we will have to be vigilant and security personnel will have to be beefed up.? Besides the eagerly anticipated clash between Bruwer and Groenewald, the show will also feature other potentially mesmerizing bouts including an IBF World mini-flyweight title clash between unbeaten champion Nkosinathi ?Mabere? Joyi and Japanese mandatory challenger Katsunari Takayama. Takayama earned the nod to face Joyi when he bludgeoned Joyi?s compatriot Tshepo Lefele in six rounds at Carnival City last September. Former two -time IBF champion and ageless Cassius Baloyi will take the first step towards a rubber match with Mzonke Fana when he engages in an elimination clash against Dominican Republican born US based Argenis Mendez. Other bouts will see Chris Van Heerden and Boitshepo Mandawe engaged in a rematch for the SA welterweight title duel, while Philip Ndou will continue his mission to reclaim former glory when he takes on Welcome Ntshingila in another welterweight clash. |
