FROILAN SALUDAR: BEST FILIPINO PROSPECT FOR 2011

Manila, Philippines ? In our round up of prospect for the year 2010, many can probably mention an abundance of boxing prospects in the Philippines who are emerging and of course, everyone will have their own opinion of who has the best chances of winning a world title.

There have already been other young prospects that got their opportunity in 2010 however failed to maintain what they have acquired, nevertheless there is one that really stands out in 2010 that you will surely hear about in 2011 and would be expected to win a world title.

A fighter by the name of Froilan ?The Sniper? Saludar who is from Digos City, Davao Del Sur who is promoted by renowned Philippines promoter Sammy Gello-ani and USA based Sampson Lewkowicz will surely get his chance to shine in 2011.

The on-going series of boxing promotions called ?The Next Prospect? by the dual promoters has surely been very effective for Gello-ani and Lewkowicz as it has surely proven to be a smart business move for them to scout and scan for the best in the Philippines.

After seeing the development in fighters of every "Next Prospect" program who have been showcased thus far in the Phillipines, fans can expect to surely see a world champion emerge out of this brilliant program next year.

The combination of promoters Gello-ani and Lewkowicz has already proven that other prize fighters will be given opportunities as well as guidance for them to claim victories, such as the likes of Marvin Sonsona, Jhonreil Casimero, Ciso Morales, Edren Dapudong, just to name a few that got opportunities out of their prospect search and maintaining consistent prospects out of their grassroot programs that develop prize fighters.

However, the dynamic duo is surely looking forward to Froilan ?The Sniper? Saludar that has sure signs of greatness, he currently is managed by Manila based trainer Joven Jimenez who now plans to bring in respected Fil-Am trainer Bobby Villaver from Hawaii to step up the training and to try and hone the skills of Saludar as he steps up against better opponents.

Fil-Am Bobby Villaver was well known for training average contender Somsak Sithchatchuwan at Thailand who later went on to destroy long-time reigning defending Jr, featherweight world champion Mahyar Monshipour to capture the WBA world crown and also added for training WBC#2 / WBO #1 Terdsak Jandaeng Kokietgym to his resume for capturing the WBC Silver World Superfeatherweight title against Carlos Rodriguez of Argentina.

Saludar in his last two fights had everyone buzzing with excitement at Imus, Cavite as Sponsors and Government Officials at Cavite want him back to headline a card this February. Sammy Gello-ani informed that it is in the works for Froilan Saludar to vie for the WBO World Youth crown against an opponent to be named and approved by the WBO.

Gello-ani said that other prospect that he had given opportunities in the past did not prevail because of lack of training and discipline, but Froilan Saludar, according to him, is different. "Saludar is a family man with a wife and a new-born baby to care for. He is the real deal, his work ethics and responsibility as a professional fighter is all there, he is very mature for his age at 21 and very humble person, I like that in him," says Gello-ani. "Saludar is surely a prospect that everyone in the Philippines will be hearing more about this coming New Year and I will push for him," Gello-ani added.

However, the top promoter mentioned that of course it is too early in his career. ?We will slowly groom him next year and get him the right fights and probably at the end of the year we will give him that big opportunity. I am very impressed with his talent and his staying power, he did impress me by knocking out his last two opponents cold with one punch," Gello-ani pointed out.

There will always be other fans that would want more worthy opponents as it is too early to size up how good Saludar is. Gello-ani said, "I know what we have, I am ready and willing to support him for bigger opportunity, this is what I was looking for. I have appointments with TV networks and sponsors after the New Year and I am sure we will do something big for him early next year."

The positive note is that Saludar as young as he is, is surely showing good signs of greatness as he has earned praises from journalists but also including WBO Asia Pacific Chairman Mr. Leon P. Panoncillo, Jr. as stated on other articles as well as Games and Amusement Board officials that only had praises for Saludar after the last two fights.

Gello-ani informed that they have plans to pit Saludar against a durable international opponent for the WBO World Youth crown this coming February 5th at Imus, Cavite and he informed that they are targeting one of Brian Viloria?s former opponent either a Mexican or a Thai foe that will give the team a measurement of how good Saludar is at this point of his young career.

Saludar after winning the vacant WBO Youth title on November 20th against Obidos and defending it against another prospect Jecker Buhawe, obtained a notable high ranking with the WBO at #12.

Froilan ?The Sniper? Saludar is the brother of Asian Games gold medallist Rey Saludar and Bronze Medalist Victorio Saludar. (PR)
