MAKAHILIG KO?S JABEL IN ALA-SUMMIT BOXING IN CAGAYAN

PhilBoxing.com

Provincial Capitol Grounds, Cagayan de Oro City -- In what was said to be the fight of the night, Marjun Makahilig of Kalibo, Aklan went out and beat prospect Jermie ?The Worm? Jabel of the Braveheart Stable.

Makahilig went toe to toe with the very game Jabel from the start of the first round with both fighters immediately going after each other with Makahilig taking the first round.

Not to be outdone was ?The Worm? from the south as he immediately went for Makahilig pressuring the Aklan native to take the next round.

The start of the third was no different from the 2 previous rounds with both fighters showing aggression but then out of nowhere between the fierce exchanges, Makahilig let go of a great combination ending it with an overhand right that caught Jabel in the face dropping the Brave Heart lad to the canvass. Jabel beat the count to survive the round.

Showing grit and determination Jabel still went for Makahilig but the Aklan boy Makahilig showed poise and controlled the tempo with his jabs and combos.

The fifth round was said to be a classic as Jabel came back as if he never went down with furious attacks and Makahilig countering his every move taking the 5th but that was the most the fighter from Mindanao could do as Makahilig now showing maturity took the following round by controlling the tempo and going on an offensive onslaught catching Jabel in almost every punch he threw.

The end came in the seventh when the referee stopped the fight as Makahilig peppered Jabel with heavy bombs to the face bloodying Jabel?s mouth. It was a gallant stand for Jermie Jabel showing why he deserves to be a Brave Heart fighter but it was written to be a night for the much improved Marjun Makahilig.

It was indeed a match-up worthy of being the fight of the night as the Cagayan de Oro crowd in attendance led by their dynamic governor Hon. Oscar Moreno was at the edge of their seats most of the time during the main event and giving both combatants a deserving standing ovation thereafter.

Other results were Gerson Mancio of Agusan pressureing Marvin Fernandez of Bukidnon to a 7th round TKO, Brave Heart bantamweight Rey Juntilla with a last round TKO over Gary Macalam of Cagayan de Oro, Gary Lumacad with a 6th round TKO over Joseph Alteza of Butuan, Joemer Lumacad with a 1st round KO via a powerful left hook over Cagayan de Oro native Rowell Burlaza and a majority decision win for Ryan Canillas over Rolly Llino of Butuan City.

This Cagayan de Oro City boxing showcase was brought to you by ALA Promotions and Summit Natural Drinking Water with the support of Misamis Oriental Governornment headed by Hon. Oscar Moreno.
