ERIK MORALES WINS
By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Sun, 19 Dec 2010

Comebacking Mexican star Erik 'El Terrible' Morales won his bout by unanimous decision against Francisco Lorenzo of the Dominican Republic at Morales' hometown in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico late Saturday night (Sunday afternoon in Manila) and retained his WBC Silver light welterweight title. The judges' scores were Raul Caiz Sr, 116-111; Raul Caiz Jr, 114-113; and Zac Young, 115-112 all in favor of Morales.
Morales started slowly but found his bearing beginning in the 3rd round and sent Lorenzo to the canvas in the 5th round with a right straight. What appeared to be an easy win for Morales after the knockdown went complicated as Lorenzo refused to back down and instead pressed the attack forcing Morales to back up.
In the 9th and 10th, Morales (51-6-0, 35KO), fighting at 139 lbs, slowed down where Lorenzo who had only two wins in his last 7 fights, connected with solid shots to the head and body of Morales. Morales, known for his warrior heart, came back strong in the 11th and 12th rounds by fighting toe-to-toe with the game Dominican and landed the more accurate punches to run away with the victory in a close contest.
There were reports that Morales may fight Juan Manuel Marquez next if Marquez couldn't get the fight against Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao on May 7, 2011.
Barrera, Morales, Marquez and Pacquiao formed a formidable quartet that dominated the featherweights few years ago where Barrera fought Morales three times, Morales fought Pacquiao three times, Barrera fought Pacquiao two times, Pacquiao fought Marquez two times and Barrera fought Marquez one time. Only Morales and Marquez have yet to face each other.
