Vanes Martirosyan Wants Dzinziruk

PhilBoxing.com

It is no secret that undefeated junior middleweight sensation Vanes "The Nightmare" Martirosyan (28-0, 17 KOs) has been clamoring for a big fight. In the last couple of years, the Armenian fighter has called out all of the big names in his division and in particular, WBO champion Sergiy Dzinziruk (37-0, 23KOs).

The undefeated champion has fought just once since bringing his career to the United States. Martirosyan understands that Dzinziruk had issues with his promoter and has since changed promoters but doesn't understand the champion's inactivity since he arrived in the U.S.A.

"I thought he came to the states to get fights? I have been calling his name for a long time and the question is, are you ever going to fight me and prove to the world that you are a real champion and not just a champion made overseas?," the Glendale, CA based fighter stated.

Martirosyan's manager, Steven Feder of Standing Eight Management, said that he made it clear to Dzinziruk's team that Vanes wanted the fight but it was rejected.

"I had already discussed it with Top Rank and Freddie Roach and both were in agreement that we should make the fight. There's no doubt that Dzinziruk is ducking Vanes plain and simple," he explained. "We can't wait around any longer so we're going to take a fight to stay busy but the time will come when one of these guys are mandatory and then there will be nowhere to hide."

Feder has his sights set on a bigger prize for his client. "Frankly, I'd rather fight Cotto. It's a far more interesting fight but Chavez will probably get to him first. Either way, we're not running from anyone."

Martirosyan is ranked #3 by the WBO with Paul Williams at #1 and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. ranked #2. After Williams first round knockout loss to Sergio Martinez, both Chavez and Martirosyan are sure to leap frog Williams when the new rankings are tabulated.

With Chavez eyeing a potential fight with Miguel Cotto, it is very likely that Martirosyan will be Dzinziruk's number #1 mandatory challenger soon.

"Sergiy will have to fight me soon or get stripped. hopefully it will be sooner than later," said Martirosyan.

Martirosyan passed on a stay busy fight that would have taken place in the middle of December in an effort to land a big fight. Now that another big name has passed on facing him, the junior middleweight will look to return to the ring soon.

"I haven't fought since June and I need to stay active. I will look to return to the ring soon so that I can stay sharp and we can make another run at landing the big fight that I have been looking for," Martirosyan said.
