PLEASE GIVE MANNY A BREAK

PhilBoxing.com

Already Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, some members of Team Pacquiao and the media are talking about who the pound-for-pound king should fight next.

Our appeal to all these people would be to please give Manny a break. Let him rest and relax and allow the aches and pains that he suffered in a tough fight against a much bigger and stronger Antonio Margarito ease before people start pressuring him about another fight.

Manny Pacquiao needs at least six months rest both for his body and his mind. Let him forget boxing for the next few months so that if he decides to return to the ring he will do so with renewed energy and interest in the sport.

That's exactly what he said when he resumed training six months after the Joshua Clottey. He told us that he missed boxing which is his life and missed the gym.

Meantime, let Manny savor the adulation of his people and his colleagues in congress, enjoy his birthday on December 17 and the Christmas season with his family and then turn his attention to the many tasks before him as the representative of the lone district of Sarangani province in the House of Representatives.

Arum and apparently adviser Michael Koncz want him to fight Shane Mosley. What will that do for Manny?s legacy except have Floyd Mayweather Jr claim that he battered Mosley and gave him on a silver platter to Pacquiao just like he said of both Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky ?The Hitman? Hatton whom he beat before they were destroyed by Manny.

Mayweather Jr must surely be the fight that everybody wants. If that fight can?t be made and Pacquiao doesn?t retire, then the obvious fight would be against Juan Manuel Marquez who has, in fairness to him, made a case for a trilogy based on his first two fights with Pacquiao.

Trouble is, while De La Hoya wants to make that fight as he desperately searches for someone to upset Pacquiao, in the process he alleges that Marquez was robbed of victory. By whom one may ask? The judges, obviously.

For someone who benefited more than once from robberies such as in the fight against Felix Sturm for one, De La Hoya sounds pathetic. Soneone who said his fight with Pacquiao was "personal" and that he would knock Manny out got the beating of his life that re-arranged his handsome face and wiped off his charming smile. For that alone he should respect Pacquiao and keep his mouth shut.

Like we said, give Pacquiao a much needed break and those who desire to continue to make money off his exploits in the ring, have some delicadeza. Don?t discuss his possible next fight.
