MEXICANS EMBRACE PACQUIAO

PhilBoxing.com

Internationally known promoter Fernando Beltran says the Mexicans have embraced pound-for-pound king and ?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao who together with his wife Jinkee and their kids are winding down a thoroughly enjoyable vacation in the beautiful state of Nayarit which is famous for its beaches.

Beltran who has played the role of host to Pacquiao told us ?it?s been beautiful. It's an honor to have him here in Mexico. The people love him down here.?

Beltran said Pacquiao was honored by the governor of Nayarit, Ney Gonz?lez, in a ceremony Wednesday afternoon at which the Secretary of Tourism and even ?everybody in the hotel were all happy to have him here.?

Pacquiao leaves Thursday night for the return flight to the Philippines via Los Angeles. It was reported that Pacquiao was very happy during his first visit to Mexico where he is an idol and where he and his family have been showered wwith hospitality.

Pacquiao said "It's my first time in Mexico and although I have to leave, I am eager to return and enjoy Mexico, its places and its people are the best."

Governor Gonzalez told a media gathering at which Pacquiao wore a jersey of the Mexican national football team competing in the FIFA World Cup which opens on Saturday in South Africa that the beauty of the beaches in Nayarit Rieves have aroused worldwide interest from great stars like Pacquiao who was recognized as a distinguished guest.

Beltran said there are joint plans to have Manny as part of a joint effort to promote shows both in Mexico and the Philippines in which they would test the talents of both countries.

Pacquiao said "I'm happy to be first in Mexico, a great country full of culture and beautiful traditions is an honor to be here and accept an invitation from my friend and partner Fernando Beltran and received by the Governor Gonzalez and the Tourism Minister of Nayarit. We're happy, my family and me."

At the press conference organized by the Government of Nayarit and Beltran who heads Zanfer Promotions, Pacquiao said he wants the fight against Floyd Mayweather in November but said that everything is in the hands of Top Rank ppromoter Bob Arum who has, we understand, holding quiet negotiations with Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer who represents Mayweather.

Pacquiao pointed out that Arum is his promoter and that ?he will do everything to ensure that the [Mayweather] fight is done. For me I have no problem whatsoever. We will be ready to fight in November."

Wearing the jersey of the Mexican soccer, Pacquiao said he is sure that the Mexican team will play a big role in the World Cup that starts this Friday.

Pacquiao added "My favorite team is Mexico, and I will be cheering. Mexico is like my second country, the Mexican fans have always supported me in my great battles and the least that I can do is thank them and support Mexico."
