JUAN 'EL NINO' RUIZ SCORES DEVASTATING 4TH ROUND KO IN PANAMA CITY

PhilBoxing.com

Undefeated Junior welterweight prospect Juan ?El Nino? Ruiz has scored a devastating 4th round knockout over the tall and awkward Jose ?La Mosca? Castro at the Arena Roberto Duran in Panama City, Saturday Manila Time.

The bout was scheduled for six rounds on the undercard of the Panamanian featherweight battle between Roinet Caballero and Irving Berry in which Berry scored a unanimous ten round decision to win the Panamanian featherweight title, the vacant WBA International title and the Latino interim title to improve to 17-1-2 with 9 knockouts. Caballero a former title challenger dropped to 27-10-1 with 19 knockouts..

Ruiz nailed Castro with a cracking right hand, left hook combination that sent him crashing to the canvas where he remained for almost five minutes.

Damon de Berry of Optimum Sports Agency told us that Ruiz came out strong and dominated the opening round connecting repeatedly with his overhand rights and left hooks. He said round two followed the same pattern with Ruiz pressing the action as Castro retreated.

Castro did have his moments when punching in the clinches but he reportedly failed to sustan any momentum.

Castro started to open up somewhat in round three but Ruiz smartly slipped the punches or blocked them even as Ruiz?s aggressive work rate of the first two rounds had slowed down.

Told to regain his control and to step up the action by his corner Ruiz came out f or round four started to connect repeatedly with his left hook. Ahead on the scorecards of the judges at that point Ruiz picked up the action, caught Castro with a right straight and then dropped Castro with a crunching left hook sending Castro sprawling on the canvas at around the two minute mark.

With the impressive win Ruiz moves to 6-0 while Castro drops to an even 4-4- record..

Ruiz was coming off a long layoff according to the records of boxrec.com which indicated that his last fight was on July 11, 2008 when he won a unanimous decision over four rounds against Benjamin Robles Murry.

Castro, on the other hand was coming off a 1st round knockout loss in a scheduled six round bout against Haiti?s undefeated Evens Pierre on October 9, 2009.

Damon de Berry of Optimum Sports Agency who manages Ruiz said ?it was a good win for Juan as he?s been out of the ring for awhile. We will look to have him fighting again soon.?
