CHINA’S WBC FEMALE CHAMPION WANTS CHRISTY MARTIN OR LAILA ALI

PhilBoxing.com

China's WBC female world champion Wang Ya Nan who successfully defended her title against world No. 2 ranked Charity Mukumi of Kenya with a ten round unanimous decision, wants a fight against Christy Martin or Leila Ali.

Wang Ya Nan retained her middleweight title in what was describedas a “very skilful and technical fight” according to well-known promoter Peter Maniatis who partnered with China’s top promoter Michael Yang to stage the fight card at the Malvern Town Hall in Melbourne where Maniatis said the crowd was fantastic.

Maniatis, a regular visitor to the Philippines and someone who often interviews fighters like Manny Pacquiao and IBF light flyweight champion Brian Viloria among others for his KO Boxing TV show in Melbourne was also given the distinction of being named Australia’s “Promoter of the Year” fpr the fourth time in five years.

Maniatis told us that “not since the days of Jeff Fenech and Jeff Harding have we had a WBC world title fight in Melbourne.”

The undefeated WBC female boxing champion who now has moved base to Melbourne plans to do a Kostya Tszyu and become a resident and fight out of Australia. She defends her world title against number two contender "Crazy" Charity Mukami of Kenya over 10 rounds.

Wang has said she ould like to challenge undefeated WBC Super middleweight world champion Laila Ali, daughter of the greatest heavyweight champion Muhammed Ali or Martin in a super fight next year in Melbourne , if she successfully defends her title against Mukami.

Maniatis earlier told us he believes the 24 year old Wang Ya Nan who is a big name in China “is the future of World Female boxing.”

On the undercard 21 year old Filipino-Australian Heath Ellis (12-1-1, 6 KO’s) won an impressive six round decision over Indonesia’s Aswin Cabuy (11-13-1, 4 KO’s) . Maniatis said Ellis showed “better skills and was more aggressive.” He said the F il-Aussie was “maturing as a boxer and has big plans in 2010 including a fight against world champion Anthony Mundine.
