Jether Oliva.
Filipino rising star Jether Oliva has signed with the American Boxing Academy of the Philippines.
Oliva, the 23yr old unbeaten junior flyweight from General Santos City in the Philippines, sports a perfect 14-0-1 9Kos record and has just recently moved into the American Boxing Academy camp in Digos City.
Oliva, who also had an outstanding amateur career in General Santos, would occasionally come to the powerhouse ABA training camp for sparring sessions with the fast rising Filipino team managed by American Ken Smith, before deciding to make the move permanent.
Smith said of Oliva, "Jether is a very good fighter, who I am proud to be associated with, he has a very bright future ahead of him, and I am looking forward to him getting a chance to show the Filipino people and the rest of the boxing world what he is capable of doing."
The American Boxing Academy which also handles world contender Ramie Laput, fringe contender Fernando Lumacad, and the unbeaten 15-0 superflyweight Roberto Udtuhon, among other young Filipino fighters, is being promoted by international promoter Sammy Gello-ani of Cebu. Gello-ani who is often refered to as "Don King of the Philippines" has been responsible for the recent sucsess of former WBO superflyweight world champion Marvin Sonsona, and more recently current interim WBO world jr flyweight champion Jonreil Casimiro. Another of Gello-ani's Filipino fighters Ciso Morales will be getting his big opportunity this Febuary 13th in Las Vegas when he takes on current WBO world bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel of Mexico.
