GORRES WATCH: SIGNS OF IMPROVEMENT CONTINUE
By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Wed, 18 Nov 2009
Z Gorres’ post-op neurologic status continues to improve three days after the tragic aftermath of his points victory against Luis Melendez of Colombia. ALA Promotions patriarch Antonio Aldeguer has been getting regular updates from his son Michael who is with Gorres in Las Vegas.
As of 2:30 pm Nov. 16 Las Vegas time (6:30 am November 17 Phil. Time) Z made a thumbs up sign on his right hand to trainer Edito Villamor when asked and open his left eye a bit to him.
As of 8pm, Nov 16, Vegas time, ( Nov. 17 12 noon Phil. Time ) Gorres was able to follow commands. He opened his eyes on his own a few times. He is able to move both of his legs on command. He moves his left arm when given painful stimuli. His neck collar has been taken off since he has been cleared from neck injuries.
Gorres suffered a knockdown late in the final round in a fight that he was clearly winning. He collapsed after the verdict was announced and underwent brain surgery to relieve pressure brought about by a blood clot on the left side of his brain.
Gorres may not be able to fight again but what is important to his wife and four children is that they will be able to see him again and spend the Christmas season together.
The ALA Promotions staff requests all Filipinos to please continue to pray for him.
