BITO RETAINS WBO INTERCON TITLE! By Salvador Lopez PhilBoxing.com Mon, 17 Dec 2007 Ryan Bito of the Marti Elorde Boxing Stable successfully retained his minimum-weight WBO Intercontinental Crown scoring a close unanimous decision win against tough compatriot Rodel Tejares in last Sunday?s main event at the Elorde Sports Center in Sucat Paranaque. All three judges at ringside--Atty. Epi Almeda, Warren Jaro, and Jonathan Davis--scored an identical 115-113 for Bito. After a quiet first round, Bito began working harder in the succeeding rounds scoring digging body punches in the second round. In the he third round, a big Bito right cross to the head rocked Tejares but was awaken by that big shot that he was soon scoring several 1-2 jab straight combinations shortly after. The fourth was a strong round for Tejares connecting several combinations to the face of Bito. The rest of the fight was marred by further exchanges with Bito mostly getting the better of them which allowed him to earn the close victory. In the supporting bout scheduled for 10 rounds and held at the 113-lb limit, Jun Eraham looked poised to re-establish his career by earning a split decision win over former WBO ASPAC Champion Benjie Sorolla. The show-boating Eraham was scoring some crisp straights to the face of Sorolla who on the other hand was connecting with digging body punches to the body. During the early stages of the fight it looked like Eraham was ready to go down after absorbing those wicked Sorolla shots to the body. To his credit, Eraham managed to hang on and snatched the victory. The scores were: 95-94 (twice) for Eraham, and 96-93 for Sorolla. Below are the results of the remaining bouts: Alvin Diale defeated Janrey Nino Canete via a majority decision (79-73, 77-76, 76-76) in an 8-round fight held at the 107-limit; Super-feather Jaypee Ignacio defeated Diosdado Perez via a UD (60-54, 60-54, 58-56) in a fight scheduled for 8 rounds; Ericson Origenes scored a 3rd round TKO victory against Antonio Batuhan after being out-boxed in the first two rounds in a super-bantam fight scheduled for 6 rounds; Ryan Origenes figured in a 6-round split draw with Esmalben Bujas (58-56, 56-58, 57-57) in a junior-flyweight bout; In a bout scheduled for 4 rounds in the minimum-weight division, Lowel Saguisa started strong scoring two knockdowns against Ronnie Lazaro before Referee Gene del Bianco called it a stoppage to save Lazaro from further punishment; and Rey Demingoy defeated Marlon Jawom via a majority decision (39-38, 39-37, 38-38) in their super-flyweight bout scheduled for 4 rounds.
