THREE FILIPINOS LOSE, ONE WINS IN AUSTRALIA
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 03 Dec 2007
Although the smashing second round KO win by IBF Pan Pacific lightweight champion Rankee ?KO Kid? Ganoy to avenge an earlier unanimous decision loss to Thailand?s Somchai Nakbalee made Filipinos in Australia proud, three others boxers were beaten while one newcomer made his mark with a TKO win according to the results from Boxrec.
Super bantamweight Ernie Gonzales Jr scored a first round TKO win in a scheduled six round bout against Omari Kimweri of Tanzania who is based in Adelaide. It was the first win of Gonzales who improved to 1-1-1 with 1 KO while Kimweri dropped to 1-1 with 0 KO?s.
In Cronulla, Sydney light welterweight Jayson Oyao lost by a third round TKO to Steven ?The Surgeon? Willis, a 5?10? southpaw who improved his record to 5-1 with 3 knockouts while Oyao dropped to 1-2 with 1 KO. Significantly both losses of the Filipino were by stoppages. Referee Les Fear called a halt at 31 seconds of round three.
In Ingleburn, also in Sydney, Roberto Lerio lost a ten round unanimous decision in a battle for the vacant WBF International super bantamweight title to undefeated Davey Browne who reportedly stands 5?11 ?? and now has a record of 10-0-1 with 3 knockouts. Lerio who is listed as a super flyweight obviously moved up in weight to fight Browne who is himself listed as a featherweight. Lerio dropped to 5-5 with 2 knockouts.
Browne was coming off a unanimous eight round unanimous decision over Robert Oyan last November 17 while Lerio lost by a ninth round TKO in his last bout against Richard Olisa.
