EIGHT FILIPINO BOXERS BEATEN IN THAILAND By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 26 Oct 2007 In an affront to the Philippines which boasts of several excellent champions led by ring idol Manny Pacquiao, eight Filipino boxers who were apparently cleared by the Games and Amusements Board headed by Dr. Nasser Cruz to fight in Thailand, some in obvious mismatches, have all been beaten. Arman De La Cruz was knocked out in the fifth round of a WBC Youth minimum weight title fight by undefeated Wanheng Menayothin, Mavin Tampus was beaten by former world champion Chatchai Sasakul who has a record of 38 KO?s in 63 wins with only 3 losses, in an eight round bout while Rey Migreno also dropped a unanimous eight round decision to another former world champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam who only recently lost his title and has a record of 66-3-1 with 34 KO?s. Alex Escaner lost a twelve round decision in a Pan Asia Boxing Association super bantamweight bout to Kosol Sor Vorapin while Allan Llanata was beaten over six rounds by Narindech Sakchatree and Dondon Jimenea dropped a unanimous six round decision to Pramuansak Posuwan (40-1-1, 22 KO?s). Over in Ayuithaya province, Monico Laurente was out-pointed by Pungliang Sor Singyu in a WBC Youth bantamweight title fight while Judefil Aclo(8-7) was badly beaten by WBC No. 3 featherweight Chonlatarn Or Piriyapinyo. Here at home in a terrible mismatch approved by the GAB office in Zamboanga City whose head Vicente Cabalog has come under fire in the past by well-known columnist and boxing writer Recah Trinidad, undefeated light flyweight, 20 year old Jether "Bomber? Oliva who has a record of 7 knockouts in 7 fights scored a third round TKO over 33 year old Rolando Baclayo who had reportedly retired last year and who, according to boxrec.com had a pathetic record of 20 wins as against 41 defeats, 22 of them by knockout. Besides, Baclayo had lost his last 24 fights. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Ronnie Nathanielsz. |
