HEAVYWEIGHT SHOWDOWN ENE-PURCELL VS RAYMENT LOCKED IN FOR JULY 22

PhilBoxing.com

TOOWOOMBA'S RISING HEAVYWEIGHT HERMAN ENE-PURCELL has a new challenge in front of him - Sydney's Randall Rayment. Rayment, another rising heavyweight in the country has won his last four and has vowed to make Herman Ene-Purcell number five.

"Our styles will no doubt turn this match into a slugfest," Rayment said.

"However I'm confident in terminating the Herminator."

Rayment has a pro record of six wins and three losses, he's never been stopped - two of his losses have come at the hands of undefeated fighters.

He lost a split points decision to the highly regarded Jai Opetaia and went the distance with Paul Gallen.

He's long been on the hunt for a shot at the Herminator and now he has his wish. The duo will square off in a six round heavyweight contest at Toowoomba's Rumours International On the July 22 card TGW & Smithy Bring the Big Fights 17.

Ene-Purcell is on the back up following his creditable nine round loss at the hands of OPBF champion Kyotara Fujimoto in Tokyo earlier in the month.

"In Tokyo Herman proved he's World class," Trainer-Manager Brendon Smith said.

"There was moments against Fujimoto where Herman looked like stopping him but it wasn't to be however we took more positives than negatives out of that fight.

"The most impressive factor has been the way Herman has been following that fight, he wanted to get straight back into training and back into the ring to earn another shot at a title.

"To do that we need a win against a quality opponent.

"Randall Rayment fits the bill, this is a really tough fight for Herman.

"Randall has won his last four and is rising up the rankings a win over Herman who is highly rated in the OPBF and ANBF would be a huge for his career.

"It's equally as huge for Herman, we need a win here to keep progressing.

"I have every faith in Herman and every faith in his ability and he needs to display that in the ring against Randall Rayment because I have a high level of respect for Randall.

"He's a good fighter, he's proven he's got a great chin

"Jai Opetaia has won eight of his eleven bouts by stoppage - he couldn't stop Randall.

"It's a similar story with Paul Gallen, Paul couldn't stop Randall.

"I do agree with Randall - on styles this has the potential to be a slug fest - we just have to be smart about it on the night.

"The experience Herman gained in Tokyo should prove to be a great learning curve and I think everyone will see the improvement in Herman come July 22."

Ene-Purcell is excited about the opportunity to face an opponent like Randall Rayment.

"I have a lot of respect for Randall Rayment, he's a fighter in every sense of the word," Ene-Purcell said.

"I give him the respect he deserves and he needs to give me the same, if he doesn't it could prove costly.

"This fight is between two guys who like to throw plenty of punches, but I need to be the smarter fighter in this one and that's what I plan on doing.

"After my experience in Japan I'm really hungry and now that I've had a taste of the big title fights I'm hungrier than ever.

"I felt like I was so close in Tokyo to winning that fight, but credit to Kyotara he prevailed the winner and deservedly so, but I want another shot.

"If I want another shot I need to be a fighter like Randall Rayment.

"He stands in between my goal so I need to go through him.

"This will be one of the toughest fights of my career, I'm well aware of that and I expect a hell of a fight.

"If I perform to the best of my ability the rest is out of my hands so that's all I will be trying to do - to be my very best on July 22."
